                           New Smyrna Speedweeks

For a Sunday night, there was a fairly good crowd at New Smyrna Speedway for
Night 3 of Speedweeks.  And tonight, we got out of the track at a decent hour
before midnight and not in the wee hours of the morning.  But it took about 20
minutes for one of the heat Late Model races to get their line in order but
after that, things went smooth.

In the Late Model feature race, we saw Bruce Lawrence in his #16 orange Late
Model with the pole.  Bruce started out strong but slipped and had to go to
the back of the field when David Rogers and his #ll took the lead.  David held
the lead for quite awhile until the #72 of Jr. Hanley took over and never
looked back.  The number three car in line #51 of Brian Hoppe took a very hard
leap into the backstretch wall but was fine, only the front end of the car was
in pain.  In the end, the top five were:

l.  #72 - Jr. Hanley
2.  #11 - David Rogers
3.  #37 - Jason Schuler
4.  #84 - Wayne Anderson
5.  #99p - Steve Carlson

** Note:  after wrecking two cars in two nights, the #31 of Ronnie Burkett was
back together for Sunday night racing.  But during qualifying early in the
evening, something broke and he ended up in the wall again.  So he was out of
the feature race for the night.

In the Limited Late Model field, we saw the #l0x of Brad Barkis taking the
lead and winning.  Top five were:

1.  #10x - Brad Barkis
2.  #75 - Mike Beyer
3.  #67 - Chad Allman
4.  #7 - Dan Delisle
5.  #1 - David Logan

In the NASCAR Tour Type and SK Mods, we saw the #99 of Jamie Tomaino with the pole.  Jamie kept the lead for awhile but a very hard charging #00 of Ted
Christopher had other plans in mind.  He slipped pass Jamie and never looked
back.  Top five were:

l.  #00 - Ted Christopher
2.  #99 - Jamie Tomaino
3.  #14 - Tim Arre
4.  #9nh - Mike Fitch
5.  #26 - George Kent

In the Sportsman division tonight, we saw the return of the blue and silver
#57 of Chad Pierce.  Chad had problems early on in Speedweeks and had borrowed a car to race but tonight, he had his car.  We saw the #31 of Brian Holifield, l997 Charlotte County Sportsman Champion, with the pole.  But not even the #62 of Randy Hecker that had won two nights in a row was a challenge to the #57 of Chad Pierce.  Once Chad got into the lead, he left the field.  Top five were:

1.  #57 - Chad Pierce
2.  #62 - Randy Hecker
3.  #31 - Brian Holifield
4.  #8 - Richard Clouser
5.  #11 - Russ Shaw

In the Mini-Stock division, we saw for the third night in a row, the #2 car of
Bob Doxie taking the win.  I am beginning to think that Bob has a jet engine in his
Mini- Stock.  Top five were:

1.  #2 - Bob Doxie
2.  #31 - Greg Luecki
3.  #22 - Randy Koon
4.  #97 - Kelly Jarrett
5.  #15 - Wayne Clark

And this was night 3 of 9 nights of racing.
