Feb 13, 1999 Night 9 - Speedweeks 99 - New Smyrna Speedway
There were campfires all thru the pits tonight - very cold for the last night of Speedweeks. But hopefully the Wisconsin cars will think they are more at home and run better for our Wisconsin friends. There was a sad and yet excited atmosphere for the ending of Speedweeks. Sad to see new friends leave, happy for folks to finally go home and sleep in their own beds.
In the Late Model Division, the #3lx of Scott Frazer had the pole for the last race of Speedweeks and he won from the pole. I think Scott's car really liked this weather because once he got the lead, and he never lost it, no one could catch him. Wayne Anderson's #84 finally solved all its problems and Wayne made his way thru all the traffic to take second behind Scott. And Bobby Gill's car made a charge from the middle to take third. Top five were:
l. #3lx - Scott Frazer 2. #84 - Wayne Anderson 3. #5 - Bobby Gill 4. #ll - David Rogers 5. #38 - Lee Faulk
Overall Champion for Late Models for Speedweeks 99 - Junior Hanley
In the Limited Late Models, we had quite a few crash and burns. But we also saw a first time winner tonight in this division, #0l of Jeff Wogoman. Jeff and the #07 of Jeff Scoffield battled for the win but in the last lap, Jeff Wogoman in the #0l took it. Top five were:
1. #0l - Jeff Wagoman 2. #07 - Jeff Scoffield 3. #21 - Westlee Talons 4. #75 - Mike Beyer 5. #67 - Chad Allman
Overall Champion - Brad Bardis #l0x
In the l00 lap NASCAR Tour Type and Sk Mods race, I had the pleasure of scoring for Tom White, #46 SK Mod. The #14 of Tim Arre had the pole but it was the #00 of Ted Christopher taking the lead. But Ted and Jamie Tamaino #99 fought each other hard and Ted ended up in the wall and Jamie sent to the back which left the #32 with the lead and winning the race. This was a car that came in and I am sorry but I did not get his name. Top five were:
l. #32 2. #99 - Jamie Tomaino 3. #26 - George Kent 4. #9 - Eric Beers 5. #29 - George Boch
Overall Champion for Tour Mods - #00 Ted Christopher Overall Champion for SK Mods - #62 - Jim Willis
In the Florida Modifieds, we saw the #7lb of Bart Corlieto with the pole but it was the #66 of Jerry Symons taking the lead early and never looking back. Tank Tucker in the #l5 and Ted Christopher in the #00 tried but could not catch Jerry. Top five were:
1. #66 - Jerry Symons 2. #15 - Tank Tucker 3. #00 - Ted Christopher 4. #7lb - Bart Corlieto 5. #2x - Jimmy Wenks
Overall Winner - Jerry Symons #66
In the Bomber division, we saw the #35 with the pole but it was the #0 of Mark Shurer that took the lead and won the race. Top five were:
1. #0 - Mark Schurer 2. #7l - Mike Hendrix 3. #35 4. #6 - Billy Morton 5. #26 - Brandon Johnson
In the Runabout division, their last race ever, it was the #91 of Alan Dillon taking the win. Alan wanted this win badly since he proposed to his girlfriend in front of all when he pulled into Victory Lane. And she said yes. Top five were:
1. #9l - Alan Dillon 2. #l - Gary Higdon 3. #63 - Joe Brogan 4. #77x - Chris Ridley 5. #69 - Wayne Nordella
And this was SPEEDWEEKS 99. Join us next Friday as we return to Orlando SpeedWorld for our Friday night of regular racing. |
