Racing Action Starts With A Blast at Auburndale Speedway

Auburndale, F L- The 1999 racing season shifts into high gear Saturday night
at 7 PM at the Auburndale Speedway with racing in all regular classes at
the quarter mile oval.

Joining the Late Models, Street Stocks, Modified Mini Stocks and Pure Stocks are the Kids Club which showcases youngsters 10 to 16 years racing against each other in full size cars; plus Jesse the Bomb will sit atop a bomb blast as part of his performance during  intermission.  This is the first night of points counting toward the season championships in each division and the Annual Best Looking Car for each division will be judged plus a overall winner will be selected.

Located just 30 minutes from the attraction area of Orlando, this little
speedplant not just can - but does produce outstanding racing and
noteworthy drivers; some of whom have advanced to the NASCAR Winston Cup
Series!  One of the most recent grads of the Auburndale oval is former
division champion Kim Sheffler-Hayes, who will make her NASCAR touring
series debut in April in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series driving for
longtime dash car owner Dave Watson. One of Watson's cars with Christian
Elder aboard went to Victory lane at Daytona this past Speedweek and some
of racing's legendary names have served an apprenticeship strapped into
Watson racecars.

Also during this past Speedweek at Daytona, Keith Roggen, a young man who
got his start in the Kids Club at Auburndale, tasted high speed and the
banking of Daytona while trying to qualify for the Discount Auto Parts 200
for NASCAR Goody's Dash Series.  Sadly the engine was not strong enough to
get Keith into his first event at Daytona.

Some of the other local drivers who have early racing roots at the
Auburndale Speedway include Joe Nemechek - NASCAR Winston Cup; the late
John Nemechek - NASCAR Trucks; Rick Wilson - NASCAR Winston Cup, Busch Grand National, All Pro; Mario Gosselin - USAR Hooters ProCup Champion, USAR Hooters Cup Champion, NASCAR Busch Grand National, All Pro; Derrick Kelly - USAR Hooters ProCup, Hooters Cup Rookie of the Year, NASCAR Goody's Dash; George Crenshaw - NASCAR Busch Grand National, Goody's Dash and Ed Howell - NASCAR Goody's Dash.

Racing will continue each Saturday night until mid-November with racing
for the 5 regular divisions as well as visits from some of the Florida
touring series like the Florida Legends Series, the Dwarf Car Racing
Association, Miniature Motorsports Super Mini Cup, SARA Sportsman, SARA
Modifieds, the Kids Club and the Top Cops Racing Association.

Saturday night March 6th the Top Cop Racing Association will join the
action bringing their Cruiser and Gold Shield divisions to compete.  All of
the racers in the Top Cop series are members of law enforcement at either
local, county, state or federal levels.  All regular division will also be
in action.  Racing starts at 7 PM.
