February 10, 1999 -John Matthews A Letter To East Bay Raceway
After attending the 100 lap STARS Late Model Winternational at East Bay on February 6, I had a difficult time deciding on what to report. I could have written about the race, and how the top six cars battled two by two by two over the lap 20 laps. I could have written about the cross state adventure getting to and from East Bay. Or the motel I stayed in the night after the race. I decided that the best thing to write about was simply East Bay Raceway. Below, I've attached a copy of the letter I sent to Stan Kolen, owner of East Bay Raceway, about my night. It says everything that needs to be said.
Dear Stan Kolen,
This past Saturday, my father and I had the pleasure of attending the 100 lap STARS Late Model Winternationals. As a frequent contributor to Florida Stock Car Racing Online, I have been to several tracks along the eastern coast and central part of Florida. Having never attended a race at your track and hearing many good stories about it, I decided this race would be the perfect opportunity.
Upon arrival, I sensed the track had something special about it. As the night progressed, the entire staff of East Bay impressed me. The way Doug Auld worked the crowd, Speedo the Clown entertained the children, and the time schedule that was maintained shows that the entire East Bay team is committed to quality family entertainment.
The STARS Late Models should also be recommended for producing the best feature race I have seen in Florida. Years from now, when I forget who won the race, what the fastest time was or how many cars showed up, I will remember how it made me feel. I’ve caught the “New Spirit of East bay” and will speak highly of East Bay when I have the opportunity. Thank you for a memorable night of racing.
Sincerely,
John Matthews |
