Slim Jim All Pro Florida 200 Facts

USA International Speedway hosts the season opening event for the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series. The Florida 200 presented by Florida Auto Auction of Orlando marks the first ever visit by the late model touring series of NASCAR. In addition to the All Pro series, USA will also host the PARTS Pro Truck Series for their second event of 1999. This will be the second visit to the high banked 3/4 mile speedway for the PARTS series which saw over 60 trucks attempting to make the starting field on it's first visit last October.

The USA International Speedway is located east of Lakeland, FL just off Interstate 4 at exit 20 and is only 30 minutes from the attractions area of Orlando. Fans attending races at USA are greeted with ample parking, large grandstands, a food midway and show cars. The 3/4 mile high banked oval is the newest and nicest short track in the southeast offering fans near daylight visabilty of the state of the art facility provided by the Musco lighting system.

An overflow field of cars is expected for the season opener and some Florida hotshoes are expected to contend for the win against many drivers from states north of the Florida state line. Two-time Slim Jim All Pro Series Champion Mike Cope, who has recently relocated to his hometown of Pinellas Park, Fla. is returning to the series full time in 1999 as is Wildwood, Fla.'s Wayne Anderson. This duo, along with Florida residents David Reutimann, Billy Bigley, Jr., Ronnie Burkett, Mike Franklin, Jr., Pete Orr and Cope's brother Jimmy, will all be contenders for the inaugural winner's trophy at Lakeland. Returning front runners, including two-time Slim Jim All Pro Series Champion Hal Goodson, Ron Young, 1998 Rookie of the Year Scott Kilby, 1998 Most Improved Driver Sean Studer, Steven Howard, Randy Gentry and a host of others, will be scratching and clawing to keep the Floridians from the win.
