April 21, 1999 DeSoto Drivers Appreciation Day This Saturday YUFFE'S Restaurant in Bradenton is holding DeSoto Drivers Appreciation Day. The stock car drivers from DeSoto Speedway and other stock car tracks will be showing their cars, signing autographs, and spending time with their fans.
Bobby Labonte's former NASCAR Busch Grand National race car will be there, as it is now owned by 17 year old Jonathon Brown, of Sarasota. Jonathon has been a Late Model driver at DeSoto, but will now be driving the new car as the JEB Motorsports entry for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. Street Stock Track Champion Brian Teeters , along with Andy Whitted, a top driver in the Mini-Stock racing class , Figure Eight Champion Patrick Hughes, of Parrish, will be on hand along with many, many other top local names to sign autographs and talk with fans.
"The local stock car racers provide thrills to over a hundred thousand fans and this a chance to show our appreciation to them for the great excitement they give us" is the way one of the YUFFE'S staff summed up the reason for the event. The high banked, always exciting, always fast DeSoto Speedway is preparing to get their 1999 racing season underway May 1st.
In addition to being able to meet the great stock car drivers who thrill the local fans every Saturday, there will some awesome Harley Davison Motorcycles on display. Holly Smith, one of the local race car drivers who also just happens to be a professional golfer is giving some free golf lessons, there will be racing T-Shirt give-aways, Free Racing Bumper Stickers, and more.
This is an excellent opportunity to bring the youngsters out to see high powered racing machines and meet the race drivers
This celebration of DeSoto stock car drivers starts at noon on Saturday in the huge YUFFE'S parking lot and will go until 4 pm. YUFFE’s will treat the drivers and their families to half price on their fine food and drink, including their childrens menu.
