May 19, 1999 Daytona Race Team Head for Homestead and Road Race
This weekend Daytona's Ric Lovecchio and Troy Flis head for the Homestead Motorsports Complex to join 50 other Road Racers from all over the Southeast in a two hour road race. Ric and Troy are known for their association with the SPIRIT OF DAYTONA TEAM and the Rolex 24 at Daytona in February. Troy will drive the two hour race and Ric is the car owner and most important Crew Chief.
Ric Lovecchio and RML RACING of Daytona are setting their sights this year on Pro Racing. RML RACING has earned a reputation of building and driving winning racecars.....setting records all over the Southeast USA. With many wins in the Sport Car Club of American (S.C.A.A.) series, Pro Endurance Road Racing was the next set for RML RACING.
The American Racing League (ARL) was founded in l997 with only a handful of cars and races. But since then, the series has grown into over 200 cars and many races and is covered nationally by promo spots, advertising on television, radio and newspapers.
Troy, who drove the SPIRIT OF DAYTONA in the Rolex 24, will be behind the wheel of a l976 ALFA ROMEO ALFETTA GT powered by a 4 cylinder, 2.0 liter twin cam engine. The fuel injected hemi produces over 150 MPH and sticks to the racing surface with its; TOYO PROXIS RA 1 rading radials, and sports four wheel disc brakes and independent suspension.
Troy Flis, 26, won the SCCA ECR Championship and the SARRC Championship both in 1998. He won 25 of the 27 races he entered. Troy is well known for his expert finish in the Rolex 24 in the SPIRIT OF DAYTONA.
If you like road racing or would like to see your first road race, this weekend the place to be is the Homestead Motorsports Complex and watching the Daytona team. -Jane Smith Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor! |
