Kenny Adams Winner of the USCS Sprint Car Tour at Columbia Motorsports Park

by Marty Little

Lake City, Fla - Pennsylvania transplant Kenny Adams
demonstrated why he is the top man of the USCS sprint car
tour as he took the lead on lap five and blasted to a
convincing win in the 25 lap feature event Saturday night
at Columbia Motorsports Park. It marked the first time
USCS had ever visited the highly banked north Florida
oval.

Adams began the night on the right foot as he set a new
track record in time trials, 14.541 seconds, breaking the
previous mark set by USAC regular Dave Steele, a former
regular in Florida events.

Former USCS champion Terry Gray paced the 20 car field on
the half-mile oval for the opening four laps before Adams
powered past for the top spot he never relinquished. Johnny
Gilbertson claimed runner-up honors, six car lengths back,
with Gray, Red Staufer and Wayne Reutimann, Jr. rounding
out the top five finishers. The second five consisted of
Chris Rogers, Boston Reid, Ted Williams, Doug Wimpee and
Doug Day.

The companion 50 lap Florida modified feature went to Kelly
Lawrence who grabbed the lead from Scott Millar on lap 23.
Larry Martin gave chase but settled for second place ahead
of Millar, Greg Nordstrom and J.F. McClellan.

Swain Norris topped the exciting 20 lap street stock head-
liner over Tim Conrad and Charles Seroki while Marty Wood
was the best of the pure stockers in front of Matt Stafford
and early leader Jason Parker.

The visiting Thunder Roadster feature was won by second
generation driver David Ragan.
