Joe Winchell Wins Marion Edwards Jr. Memorial at Hialeah | by Marty Little Hialeah, Fla - Joe Winchell brought down the curtain on the 2002 season at Hialeah Speedway Saturday night as he lead all 100 laps to win the 33rd running of the Marion Edwards, Jr. Memoiral for late models.
Wheeling the Mickey Wright Chevrolet, Winchell began the century run from the pole and paced the 16 car field throughout. Bobby Coyle stayed with Winchell the entire distance to claim runner-up honors over fast qualifier Jonny Kay, Steve Lamb and Danny Maddox.
T.C. McElyea captured his fifth street stock main of the season and copped the track championship in the process. Tom Daly gave chase but settled for second money ahead of Sean Bulaskas, Mike Orth, and early leader Gary Potter.
The cyclone headliner fell to Roger Bohanon by default as original victor Cory Certain failed post-race tech. Roger Pfau was second in the 25 lap run ahead of Mike Powers, Timmy Ryan and Chris Stockton.
Peter Lloyd was the best of the super mini cup runners as he scored a wire to wire victory in the 15 lap feature. Newcomer Billy Martin grabbed second money ahead of Richard Crisafulli, Mike Harrison and Cesar Bacarella.
