David Weaver Takes Late Model Sportsman Feature at Hialeah | by Marty Little
Hialeah, Fla - Veteran David Weaver won the accident shortened 14 lap late model sportsman feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
Starting from the pole, Weaver quickly built a com- fortable lead but on lap 14 the car of Clint Wasteney lost a rear gear plug and coated the track with oil, effectively ending the event. Gary McGoron took the runner-up slot ahead of Ricky Thorpe.
The rough and tumble street stock 25 lap main fell to Greg Gorniak as he managed to avoid tangles that KO'd his challengers. Ron Wilson checkered second ahead of Fred Schenk, early leader Ken Ammerman and Jeff Roberts.
Mini Stock points leader Tommy Styer hustled to his 16th victory of the season with a good drive over Bill Calder in the 25 lap feature. John Namor had his best finish of the season in third ahead of Bill Miner and Jerry Woodall.
Tony Crowder scored a double in a borrowed car as he topped the 25 lap cyclone headliner over Harvey Freeman and Chris Stockton then came back to take the 10 lap figure 8 run in front of Regula and Zane Reid.
