Mike Powers and Victor Leo Share Victories at Hialeah | By Marty Little
Mike Powers and Victor Leo shared victories in the twin 50 lap features that comprised the Nasty 100 for cyclone division cars Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
In the opening 50 lapper Powers grabbed the lead from George Morales on lap 24 then cruised to the victory over Ron Regula, Steve Dielmann, Bruce Moerlins and Harvey Freeman.
For the second 50 the field was inverted and Leo needed only two laps to gain the top spot and he never looked back as he sped to his fifth win of the season. Powers took runner-up money ahead of Regula, Tony Barecca and Dielmann.
The 15 lap late model sportsman headliner fell to points leader Gary McGoron with a good drive over Danny Maddox and Ray Derry.
Ron Wilson proved the best of the street stocks as he topped Jeff Roberts and Frank Kelliher in the 15 lap run.
Bill Calder held off the race-long challenges of Tommy Styer to nab the mini stock 20 lap main. Rookie John Namor finished third ahead of Jim Minor and Harold Cross.
The Florida Pro Series late model tour will visit the speedway this Saturday (11-2) night.
