Points Battles Heat Up at Orlando SpeedWorld

by Jane Smith
Bithlo, Fla - The points battle in almost every division
this year is very close for the racers at Orlando
SpeedWorld. With "Double" points awarded, the battle
gets even hotter.

Bandoleros were aplenty as the Bandit and Young Gun
divisions hit the track. Young Dalton Zehr sat on the
pole for the feature event but it did not take Sam
Watts long before he took the point and neer looked
back. Watts did a good job of holding off the hard
charging Zehr. Following Watts #73 across the
checkers was #63 Dalton Zehr, #1 Chris Staggs, #38
Gerald White, Jr., #60 Chad Atkins, #33 Derrick
Wood, #25 and @18.

Dalton Zehr #63 took the heat win.

Patrick Conard sat on the pole for the Young Gun
division and lead flag to flag. Kory Abbott gave
a valiant effort to try and take the point but
just could not get up enough steam to pass the
hard charging Conrad. Following Conrad to the
checkers was #5 Kory Abbott, #14 Troy Atkins, #26
Murphy, #21 Kevin Henry, #11 Brandon Thomson, #0
Matt Ponteng, and #14

Patrick Conrad #6 took the heat win.

Bob Wines had the point for the Super Stock division.
When the green was thrown, Wines jumped to the point
but soon found himself in a side-by-side battle with
Bobby Simcox for thelead. Simcox was able to take the
point with Wines slipping to fourth.

Simcox found Rich Clouser hot on his tail and ready
for a fight for the lead. Plenty of side-by-side,
door-to-door action and Clouser had the point.

The point leader in the Super Stock, Cory Freed,
had his car wrecked in the heat race and drove his
dad's #11 for the feature. Second in points Jeff
Wright tried to get up to the point but settled for
a 6th place finish with Freed in seventh.

Following Clouser across the checkers was #92 Bobby
Simscox, #llx Rick Johns, #7b Bob Wines, #00 John
Hodge, #50 Jeff Wright, #11 Cory Freed, #27 Scott
Tyler, #32 and #44 Bob Beiler.

Heat wins went to Bob Wines and Jeff Wright.

The #12 sat on the pole for the Super Mini Cups but
it was the #46 who jumped to the point for the first
few laps until the #71 took the point. The #57
charged his way up the ladder and tried to overtake
the #71 but just couldn't. Following #71 across
the checkers was #57, #31, #70, #05, #46, #44, #3,
#12, #83, #1, and #34.

Heat wins went to #71 and #70.

It was a green flag to checker flag for Ronnie Roach
polesitter for the Super Late Model division. Roach
came into Friday night's race second in points with
Jared Allison the point leader. Allison finished a
respectable third.

Ricky Wood drove a strong race but not strong enough
to take the point away from Roach. Following Roach
across the checkers was #33 Ricky Wood, #18 Jared
Allison, #26D Eric Deffendal, #21 Scott Reeves, #45
Mack Hanbury, #44 Greg Reynolds, #31 and #54 Russ
Thomson.

Ronnie Roach took the heat win.

Homer Gordon sat on the pole for the Sportsman feature
event but it was Danny Shearer who pulled to the point
on the green. But it did not take Rick Johns, second
in points, long before he took the point and never
looked back.

Kelly Jarrett, the points leader, was on the tail of
Johns in second when he blew a tire and hit the
frontstretch wall. Jarrett was okay but the car was
done for the night.

Following Johns across the checkers was #23 Richard
Hight, #3 Earl Beckner, #31 Paul Colgan, #93 Bruce
Gayton, #04 Doug Samion, #77 Danny Shearer, #11
Justin Hall, #5 Dave Denyer, #7 Bill Hall, #13
Robert Hight, #22 Homer Gordon, #9 Kelly Jarrett
and #15 Mike Santana.

Rick Johns and Paul Colgan took the heat wins.

Bobby Blake sat on the pole for the Open Wheel
Modifieds going from green to checker. Returning
to his old stomping grounds was Jason Boyd, coming
off a run with the ASA Series.

Points leader John Foerg was working his way to the
front when he had sparks coming from under his car
and had to retire. Foerg and Blake are in a very
tight points battle for the championship.

Boyd tried but could not pass Blake as Blake took
the checkers followed by #2x Jason Boyd, #34 Frank
Polly, #55 Shane Held, #38 David Debelius, #57 Jim
"Hoot" Flynn, #4 Glen Bradley, #17 Dink Sullivan,
#08 Terri Bryant, and #30 John Foerg.

Bobby Blake took the heat win.

Wayne Wells, who has been running at Ocala Speedway on
Friday nights, had the pole for the Mini Stock feature.
But it was Sean Bass who went side-by-side with Wells
for the lead and took it. Coming up fast was Lee
Davis, from Auburndale Speedway. Davis passed Bass
and took the point.

Going into the double points night, Bobby Orr had a 40
point lead over Tim "Missileman" McPhail. Orr and
McPhail both wanted the win but had to settle for
fourth and fifth.

It looked like a win for Lee Davis but on the last few
laps his motor made strange sounds as he went around
the track and Bass passed once again for the lead.
Davis was able to hold on to second in spite of his
motor going sour.

This was Bass's second win of the season, after coming
back from a very bad crash at Orlando SpeedWorld.
Following Bass across the checkers was #77 Lee Davis,
#07 Dick Laszlo, #30 Bobby Orr, #7 Tim "Missileman"
McPhail, #23 Wayne Wells, #88 R.J. Arnone, #67 Bo
Davis and #3 Kory Kaiser. The #2 David Castello hit
the wall hard in the heat race and was unable to
compete in the feature race.

Lee Davis took the heat win.

There were a few more Strictly Stocks as they are
preparing for a 25 lap feature next week at Orlando
SpeedWorld. Justin Reynolds sat on the pole and
led every lap for their feature event. Following
Reynolds to the checkers was #1, #55 Jim Messenger,
#27 Robert Ward, #24 William Hindman, #13 Ralph
Jones, #14, #56, and #77 Paul Cornellius.

Taking the heat win was Jim Messenger.

Next weekend at Orlanod SpeedWorld racing in all
divisions plus a 35 Lap Feature event for the Strictly
Stocks.
