Orlando SpeedWorld Heats Up as the Night Cools Down

by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla - As the racing season winds down, the
action gets even hotter for Orlando SpeedWorld. With
the points battles in a number of divisions close,
every win counts.

Chad Atkins #60 and Patrick Conrad #6 were the heat
winners for the Bandoleros. On the pole for their
feature event was Patrick Conrad #6. Conrad quickly
took the point and lead from green to checker. With
only a few cautions in the feature, Conrad proved
that his car was too strong for anyone to pass him.
Following Conrad to the checkers was #21, #5 Cory
Abbott, #11 Brandon Thomson, #63 Dalton Zehr, #l
Christopher Staggs, #38 Gerald White, Jr., #x, #18,
#01, #60 Chad Atkins and #73 Sam Watts.

Richard Hight #23 and Rick Johns #4 took the heat
wins for the Sportsman division. Kelly Jarrett #9
sat on the pole for the feature event.

Jarrett took the lead on the green but it was the #82
Tommy Johnson who had one strong car and passed
Jarrett. The #15 Bobby Rinaldi spun and was slowly
coming up off the Bandolero track when he came up in
turn four right in front of Johnson. Johnson, with
no place to go, hit Rinaldi putting them both in the
frontstretch wall. Johnson was able to drive his
car to the pits, Rinaldi was towed in but Johnson's
strong run was done for the night.

Taking over the lead was Kelly Jarrett #9. But another
caution for the #75 has Earl Beckner #3 pass Jarrett
on the retart and takes the lead.

Beckner maintained the point to the checker with #9
Kelly Jarrett, #4 Rick Johns, #31 Paul Colgan, #23
Richard Hight, #77 Danny Shearer, #11 Justin Hall,
#5 Dave Denyer, #22 Homer Gordon and #93 Bruce Gayton.

Rich Clouser #17 set fast time for the 50 lap Super Stock
Special with a 15.888. But it was the #7b Bob Wines on
the pole. Wines was able to jump to the point on the
green with John Hodge, Ron Whaley, Jeff Wright and Bob
Beiller filling the top five spots. Whaley slows and
ends up pulling out of the race.

John Hodge #00 fights Wines for the lead going side-by-
side until he finally makes the pass. Hodge is able
to hold the point but Rich Clouser has moved into the
second position.

Alot of bumping, banging and two cautions later, Clouser
still holds the lead to take the checkers. Following
Clouser was #11 Duane Freed, #22 Andy Nichols, #12 Cory
Freed, #57x Chad Pierce, #44 Bob Beiller, #50 Jeff
Wright, #5 Bobby Riley, #57 Brent Brown, #92 Bobby
Simcox, #7b Bob Wines, #00 John Hodge, #27 Ted Head,
#28 Ron Edwards, #11x Rick Johns, #64 Billy Cuddy,
#12oz Jim "Hoot" Flynn, #40 Dano, and #2 Ron Whaley.

The top three were torn down after the race and all
were found legal.

John Foreg #30 and Shane Held #55 won the heat races
in the Modified division. On the pole for the feature
wss #30 John Foreg who lead from green to checkers.
Skip Honaker had a good run in the #2 with a third
place finish. We don't see Skip enough and Jim "Hoot"
Flynn #57 also joined in the fun tonight.

Following Foreg across the checker was #34 Frank Polly,
#2 Skip Honaker, #75 Bobby Blake, #55 Shane Held, #38
Dave Debelius, #57 Jim "Hoot" Flynn, #17 Dink Sullivan,
#4 Glen Bradley, #08 Terry Bryant, and #1 Jimmy Wilkens.

Dick Lazslo #07, our mini truck, won the heat race in
the Mini Stock Division. On the pole was #28 Sean
Bass. Bass lead for fourteen laps holding off Bobby
Orr #30 all fourteen laps. On the last lap, Bass gets
loose from oil or dirt on the track giving Orr the
opportunity finally to pass and take the lead. Orr
makes the pass and takes the checkers followed by
#28 Sean Bass, #7 Tim "Missileman" McPhail, #07 Dick
Lazslo, #2 David Castello, #3 Cory Kaiser, and #88
R.J. Arnone.

Dusty Cornelius #77 won the heat race for the Strictly
Stocks. On the pole for their feature event was the
#27 Robert Ward. Ward took the point on the green but
it was the #55 Jim Messenger that took the checkered.
Following Messenger was #27 Robert Ward, #24, #77 Dusty
Cornelius, #37, #4 Larry Cuddy and #13 Ralph Jones.
Tomorrow night at New Smyrna Speedway, the Strictly
Stocks will go for a 25 lap feature.

Next weekend at Orlando SpeedWorld 10/25, it is DOUBLE

and Legends.
