Jared Allison Take Super Late Model Win at Orlando SpeedWorld | by Jane Smith Bithlo, Fla - It was a perfect night at Orlando SpeedWorld as racers and fans were treated to some of the best racing action in Central Florida.
Patrick Conrad #6 Bandolero once again swept the win for both the heat and feature race at SpeedWorld. But the feature win was not as easy as the heat win. Kory Abbott #5 was hard on Conrad's tail as they put each other out and had to go to the rear of the pack putting #14 Troy Atkins on the point.
Atkins, who has improved each race, spun with the #11 Brandon Thomson in turn 4 giving the lead to #l Chris Staggs. Staggs led until Conrad, working his way from the rear, took over and once again never looked back. Following Conrad to the checkers was #63 Dalton Zehr, #14 Troy Atkins, #73, #5 Kory Abbott, #60 Chad Atkins, #0 Matt Ponteng, #11 Brandon Thomson, #38, and #l Chris Staggs.
Twenty one Classic cars put on one heck of a show as #5 Jim Rahman and #12 Ben Booth won the heat races. Booth, who got the pole position for the feature race, proved his #12 was a strong car as he pulled to the lead. But his lead was not long as he and #6 Al Hagan spun and were sent to the rear.
Joey Strehle #42 took over the lead when Booth went to the rear and as they say, never looked back. As #42 Dennis Gilliam was running second in his South40 Classic Car, Gilliam and #3 Greg Helton got together coming off turn 4. Helton was towed in and done for the night and Gilliam was able to continue.
Strehle took the point once again on the green with #17 Harvey Ewing in second spot but Ewing was not quite strong enough to hold off the #5 Jim Rahman and found himself in sixth position after finally settling back down from the pass.
Thje #31 Keith Roberts slowed and found his way to pit road but flames could be seen under the hood. The safety crew quickly got to Roberts and put out the fire. Roberts was fine but his car was alittle toasted.
It was green flag laps to the checkered with Joey Strehle #42 taking the win. Following Strehle was #5 Jim Rahman, #8 Patrick "Bam Bam" Sanders, #74 Ed Yates, #11 Frank Conrad, #24 Wayne Ashton, #17 Harvey Ewing, #7 Bud Spencer, #42 Dennis Gilliam, and #1 E.T. McGhee.
Tim "Missileman" McPhail pulled closer to Bobby Orr's point lead in the Mini Stocks as he won but the heat and feature race. McPhail, last year's Mini Stock Champion, and Orr have been battling it every week as they both get closer and closer to the end of the season for the point lead.
McPhail, who sat on the pole, pulled out to a strong lead in the feature race over #07 Dick Lazslo with Orr in the third spot. Orr passed Lazslo and was heading for McPhail when he spun in the buttom of turn 2 and was sent to the rear.
On the restart, Orr quickly made his moves back to the front but McPhail had built up enough lead that there was no catching him. Following Tim "Missileman" McPhail to the checkered was #30 Bobby Orr, #07 Dick Lazslo, #88 R.J. Arnone, #3 Kory Kaiser, and #20 Chris Jones.
Bobby Blake #75 and John Foerg #30 took the heat wins for the Open Wheel Modifieds. Foerg and Blake are very close in points for the Open Wheel Modified Champion and have battled hard week after week.
In an all green lap race, Blake had the pole for the feature and quickly jumped to the lead and never looked back. Following Bobby Blake #75 to the checkered was #34 Frank Polly, #3 Wayne Parker, #55 Shane Held, #30 John Foerg, #67 Darren Gould, #38 Dave Debelius, #6, #17 William Sullivan, #56 Ken McCracen and #99 Wes Haigh.
Mike Murphy #26 took the heat win for the Super Late Models but it was the #18 Jared Allison who sat on the pole for their feature event.
Allison quickly took the point on the green with #14 Ronnie Roach in second and #94 Chad Pierce in third. Pierce's #94 was looking very strong as possibly going for his first win in the Super Late Model division as he passed #14 Ronnie Roach for second and set his eyes on Allison. But something must have broke as Pierce slowed and went onto pit road.
Once Pierce was out, Ronnie Roach #14 took over the second spot with Mike Murphy #26 close behind him. Suddenly, Roach and Murphy spin sending them both to the rear of the field on realignment.
Allison held on to the lead and took the checkers followed by #26D Eric Deffendal, #54 Russ Thomson, #26 Mike Murphy, #14 Ronnie Roach, #07, #44 Greg Brooks, #34 Bobby Fleckenger, #94 Chad Pierce, and #45 Mack Hanbury.
Cory Freed #12 and John Hodge #00 won the heat races for the Super Stocks. On the pole for the feature race was Hodge #00.
Hodge and Freed went side-by-side, door-to-door for many laps fighting for the lead but it was Freed who finally won the battle. Following Freed to the checkers was #00 John Hodge, #92 Bobby Simcox, #17 Rich Clouser, #50 Jeff Wright, #64 Billy Cuddy, #44 Bob Beiler, #7b Bob Wines, #27 Gary Tyler, #67 Rip Dyal, #28 Glen Tatum, and #5 Bobby Riley.
Money was put up for the #12 to be torn down after the race. About 1:30 a.m., the #12 was found illegal and the win was given to Hodge. Freed lost the win, his points, and the money for the night.
Rick Johns #4 and Danny Shearer #77 won the heat races for the Sportsman Division. Homer Gordon #22 sat on the pole for their feature event but it was the #11 Jason Hall who quickly jumped to the point and looked very strong. Hall spins while in the lead and #9 Kelly Jarrett spins avoiding Hall. As Hall pulls off pit road into the pits, his tire decides it wants to race and gives the dune buggy a run at the checkers.
On the restart, #4 Rick Johns finds himself othe point and as always, never looked back as he flew to the checkers. Following Johns was #23 Richard Hight, #13 Robert Hight, #22 Homer Gordon, #10 Shawn Gourley, #5 David, #73 Mark Miller, #93 Bruce Gayton, #77 Danny Shearer, #9 Kelly Jarrett, and #11 Jason Hall.
The Strictly Stocks saw the #77 take not only the heat win but also the feature win and this was his first time out. Following #77 Cornelius to the checkers was #27 Robert Ward, #13 and #4.
