Gayton Wins Sportsman at Orlando SpeedWorld | Dark clouds surrounded Orlando SpeedWorld as all divisions got ready for a night of racing action. Due to the Pro Challenge and Dwarf cars as the special events, there were features only for all FASCAR divisoins except the Bandeleros, Dwarfs, and Pro Challenge cars.
Patrick Conrad #5 and Matt Martin #2 shared the heat wins in the Bandelero divisions. In the Bandits feature, it was #2 Matt Martin taking home the win with #73, #60 Chad Ctkins, #38, #25 Jarrett, and #22 Anderson taking the top five.
Young Guns saw #5 Patrick Conrad take the win followed by #5, #21, #14 Chad Atkins and #11 Brandon Thomson.
Pro Challenge saw the #1 take the heat win. Special driver in the #5 truck, Tim "Missileman" McPhail, who was given the ride for his birthday, came home in 5th place in the heat. It was also the #1 on the pole for the feature race and taking the checkers followed by #24, #10, #56 and #5 Tim "Missileman" McPhail.
Dwarfs had three heat races with #8x, #68 and #06 taking the wins. On the pole for the feature race was the #8x who also won from the pole leading every lap. Following #8x across the checkers was #8, #68, #5, and #22.
Kory Kaiser #3 sat on the pole for the Mini Stock feature with #07 Dick Laszlo taking the lead on the green. Laszlo held the lead for several laps until the #7 Tim McPhail made his way to the front. Bobby Orr #30, who lucked out and started in the 6th spot instead of 8th due to a car falling out, made his way up to the front to duke it out with McPhail. Orr made the pass and took the lead and the checkers. Following Orr was #7 Tim "Missileman" McPhail, #07 Dick Laszlo, #88 R.J. Arnone, #28 Sean Bass, #3 Kory Kaiser, #34 Josh Robinson, #6 Jamie Dixson, #43 Tom Rose and #85 Rex Hollinger.
Jared Allison sat on the pole in his #18 Super Late Model. Allison jumped to the point on the green but was unable to hold off a hard charging #14 Ronnie Roach. Following Roach to the point was the #88 Travis Kittleson who took over second putting Allison to third. They remained this way as Roach took the checkers. Following Roach was #88 Travis Kittleson, #18 Jared Allison, #54 Russ Thompson, #26D Eric Deffendal, and #5 Derrick Strong.
Carl Peters #1 Super Stock sat on the pole and won from the pole leading every single lap. Before the race really got going, the #92 Bobby Simcox hit the #17 Rich Clouser breaking off the valve stem on his tire and forcing Clouser to retire to the pits. Simcox was sent to the rear and the race restarted. Following Carl Peters to the checkers was #00 John Hodge, #12 Cory Freed, #2 Ron Whaley, #50 Jeff Wright, #92 Bobby Simcox, #7b Bob Wines, #64 Billy Cuddy, #79 Rip Dyal, #16, #44 Bob Berter, and #17 Rich Clouser.
Bobby Blake #75 sat on the pole for the modified feature event but it was #34 Frank Polly who got the jump and took the lead on the green. Polly did a good job of holding off #2x Jason Boyd but Boyd was not to be denied as he wanted the win and Boyd was able to pass Polly for the lead. Following Boyd across the checkers was #30 John Foerg, #34 Frank Polly, #3 Wayne Parker, #75 Bobby Blake and #55 Shain Held.
Kelly Jarrett #9 sat on the pole for the Sportsman feature event and lead for most of the race. Behind Jarrett was the #77 Danny Shearer and #31 Paul Colgin. Onne again, Colgan #31 lost an engine putting oil all over the track. The race was red flagged for clean-up. When the race restarted, Shearer #77 hit the #9 in the rear slightly and both went up towards the wall in the oil slick left. Both were sent to the rear of the field with #93 Bruce Gayton getting the lead. Gayton was able to hold on and take the checkers for his first win of the 2002 season. Following Gayton across the checkers was #3 Earl Beckner, #28, #9 Kelly Jarrett, and #77 Danny Shearer.
Strictly Stock saw the #20 Justin Reynolds on the pole for their feature event but it was the #33 Frank Costantino who took the point. Costantion was able to hold the lead until the #45 Jim Leslie made his pass and took over for the win. Following #45 Jim Leslie was #33 Frank Costantino, #20 Justin Reynolds, #14 Roger Benton, and #27 Robert Ward.
