It's time to race!

   

August 23, 2002

McLeod, Orr, Clouser, Beckner, McPhail ,All Winners at Orlando SpeedWorld

Matt Martin #2 won the heat race for the Bandeleros
and sat on the pole for the feature race. Martin
quickly jumped to the lead with Dalton Zehr #63
in second. But coming up was the #6 Patrick Conrad
who challenged Martin for lead. The two spin and
are sent to the rear. Taking over the lead is
Zehr. The #6 Conrad is black flagged for rough
driving and leaves the track. Troy Atkins #14
takes the lead on the restart away from Zehr and
takes the win. Following #14 Troy Atkins is
#63 Dalton Zehr, #lw Derrick Wood, #2 Matt Martin,
#40 Mike Murphy's daughter - sorry forgot her first
name.

Cory Freed #12 took the heat win for the Super Stocks.
On the pole for the feature race was #12 Cory Freed.
But it was Rich Clouser in the #17 that took the lead
and held it for the entire race. Following Clouser
to the checkers was #12 Cory Freed, #2 Ron Whaley,
#00 John Hodge, and #64 Billy Cuddy.

Chad Pierce #94 won the first heat race for the Super
Lates with #14 Ronnie Roach winning the second heat race.
On the pole for the feature race was #78 B.J. McLeod
who quickly jumped to the lead and held it to take
the checkers. #45 Mack Hanbury does a little spin to
bring out the caution but is able to continue. Rusty
Ebersole #47 also did a great job of saving his car
when it slide and went towards the turn 4 wall but he
got it under control. Following McLeod was #14 Ronnie
Raoch, #22 Larry Osteen, #26 Mike Murphy, #94 Chad
Pierce, #02 Jared Allison, #54 Russ Thompson, #26x
Eric Deffendal, #5 Derrick Strong, #30 Mark Emberson,
#45 Mack Hanbury, #44 Greg Brooks, and #47 Rusty
Ebersole.

Richard Hight #23 won heat race #1 for the Sportsman
with #3 Earl Beckner taking the second heat race win.
On the pole for the feature event was #23 Ricahrd
Hight but it was #3 Earl Beckner who quickly took
over the number one spot and never looked back. The
#31 Paul Colgan lost an engine which brought out the
caution. On the last lap as #23 Richard Hight was
running third, the #4 Rick Johns sets him spinning
and takes away the third spot. Following Beckner
to the checkers was #82 Tommy Johnson, #4 Rick Johns,
#9 Kelly Jarrett, and #93 Bruce Gayton. #4 Rick
Johns was suspended for two weeks for arguing with
the officials after the race.

Tim "Missileman" McPhail won the heat race for the
Mini Stocks and it was the #28 Sean Bass on the pole
for their feature event. Bass lead briefly until
the #7 McPhail took the lead over. But close behind
McPhail was #30 Bobby Orr who challenged McPhail and
eventually took the lead and the win. Following
Orr across the checkers was #7 Tim "Missileman" McPhail,
#28 Sean Bass, #07 Dick Laszlo, and #88 R. J. Arnone.

Jim Leslie #45 took the heat win for the Strictly Stocks
but it was the #l Coy Riddle on the pole for their
feature race. Riddle was able to hold the lead for
a few laps and then #0 Michael Seay took over. But
this was not the end of the lead changes as #45 Leslie
challenges Seay and takes over the lead. Leslie
was able to hold the lead and take the checkers with
#0 Michael Seay, #l Coy Riddle, #20 Justin Reynolds,
and #6 Joe Whittenton.
