Joe Winchell Wins 48 Lap Late Model Sportsman at Hialeah's 48th Anniversary

by Marty Little

Hialeah, Fla. - Joe Winchell helped Hialeah Speedway
celebrate its 48th anniversary in grand style Saturday
night as he ran to a convincing victory in the 48 lap
late model sportsman feature.

Winchell took the lead on lap 14 from Danny Maddox and
never looked back as he took the victory ahead of
Charlie Coyle, Greg Kaouk, Gary McGoron and David
Weaver.

Bubba Martone made it look easy in the street stock 48
lap run with a good drive over Travis McCoy, Chad
Rutherford, point leader, T.C. McElyea and Ron Wilson.
Tommy Styer was the mini stock winner as they ran at
the back of the street stocks due to lack of cars.

Street stock action saw Tony Barreca hold off the late
race charge of Roger Bohannon to win the 48 lap action
cyclone main. Susan Reid, Lynn Reid and Bob Regular
rounded out the top five in the 29 car field.

Sean Bulaskas ran his pure stock win streak to three
straight with a dominant run over John Bentley and
Frank Kelliher.

In the two 15 lap legends races Joe Edwards won the
opener over Bobby Brack and Donnie Rutherford while
Jim Tuning won the second ahead of Steve Krinsky and
Randy Barnwell, Donald Economy won the special DJ/
Media race.
