Dorsey Strickland Winner In Jason Buzbee Mini Stock Memorial. | GIBSONTON, Fla. (July 20, 2002) - They say the cream always rises to the top and Saturday night at East Bay Raceway, Dorsey Strickland piloted his Johnny Doan Plumbing #21 to the top spot to claim the win in the Mini Stock Jasen Buzbee Memorial race.
Strickland, the current points leader in the division grabbed the lead on lap 9 when Brian Debore dropped out with mechanical problems. Strickland then held off Chad Rose, Rick Partridge, Scotty Williams and Rob Pope for the win.
The Buzbee family was on hand to present the trophies to the top 3 finishers. Heats went to Rob Pope and Rich Livernois.
In Sprints it was Casey Johnson taking the lead from Danny Martin Jr. on lap 16 to claim his 5th win of the season. Martin took the lead from Joe Melnick on lap 2 and looked like he was headed for his 4th win when a yellow came out on lap 13 and wiped out his straightaway lead, putting Johnson right on the rear bumper of his neighbor, Johnson then went by Martin coming out of turn 4 on lap 16 and never looked back. Martin held on for second over Brian Maddox, Daryl Smith and Micheal Smith. Heats went to Daryl Smith and Brian Maddox.
K D Kelly was having the best night of his career in Late Models after claiming his heat win, Kelly took the lead from Bob Peterson on lap 2 and was pulling away from the field. On lap 13 a red flag came out for an incident involving Bobby Alexander Sr. and Bill Howard, both drivers were OK. W
hen the racing resumed, Roger Crouse went to the high side on the restart and powered around Kelly on lap 14 to cruise home the winner, getting his first win of the year. Phillip Cobb, Kelly, JR Austin and Trevor Merrell rounded out the top 5. Kelly and Cobb claimed heat wins.
Forrest Gough took the lead from Ed Hill on lap 7 and held off the late charge of Terry Gay to claim the Limited Late Model win, his 5th of the season. Gray, the current points leader finished second over Ed Hill, Mike Rudder and William Hampton. Heats went to Hill and Gough.
Rob Hall made it 2 in a row in Street Stock A Mains as he took the lead on lap 3 from D J Sanders and battled Steve Johnson to claim the win. Bryson Ryker just nipped Johnson at the line to claim second, Mac Kersey and Jack Rowland rounded out the top 5. Heats went to Hall, Eric Johnson and Tommy Mena.
