Chad Rutherford Takes First Long Awaited Victory at Hialeah | Hialeah, Fla. - Steve Weaver, Jr, substituting for regular driver Danny Maddox, drove to a wire to wire victory in the 15 lap late model sportsman headliner Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway. Ever steady Stuart Robertson had another good finish to claim second money over T.C. McElyea and points leader Gary McGoron.
The long awaited first victory for street stock runner Chad Rutherford finally happened as the third-generation driver led wire to wire in the 25 lap feature. Steve Dielmann got past new point leader T.C. McElyea on the final lap for runner-up honors with Fred Schenk and Ron Wilson rounding out the top five finishers. Bill Calder proved the best of the mini stock set as he was another wire to wire victor in front of Eddie Lowery's Toyota in the 20 lap main. Tommy Styer, Shawn Reiss and Larry Johnson were next across the stripe.
David Weaver lead all except the lap that counted, the last one, as Victor Leo copped the 25 lap cyclone feature. Weaver collected second money over Bruce Moerlins, Harvey Freeman and Tony Barreca.
Greg Gorniak scored his second feature win on the season in claiming the 25 lap pure stock victory ahead of Frank Kelliher, Sean Bulaskas, John Bentley and George Morales.
Barreca bested Bob Regula and Leo in the figure 8 feature while the visiting mini cup run fell to Wayne Garhardt over Ryan Dundas and Peter Lloyd.
