Rich Pratt Winner of Limited Late Model Special at Ocala Speedway | Ocala, Fla - Rich Pratt figured he'd just "ride and hope for the best" in the Ltd. Late Model feature at Ocala Speedway Saturday night after having to be towed off of the track earlier in the evening. His pit crew figured differently. They worked feverishly to make the mechanical repairs during the heat races for the other divisions running that night and by the time the Ltd. Late Model feature rolled around the car was ready. Pratt started in the 4th position outside of last month's winner, E.J. Wise. When the green flag dropped, Pratt moved into 3rd place behind the leader, Robbie Smith and Wise. About a third of the way through the 30 lap feature, Wise spun in turn 4 and had to go to the rear of the field. A couple of laps later, Pratt passed Smith to take over the lead. Wise worked his way back up through the field and when the checkered flag flew it was Pratt in lst, Wise in 2nd and Doug Levesque in 3rd. Smith and Jared Allison rounded out the top five.
Pete Close, Jr. took home the trophy in the Steven A Bagen Sportsman division feature. Close, Jr. made it look easy, leading from flag to flag, but he had to work thoughout the race to keep William Edwards and Bob Masciarelli from getting by. All three drivers appeared to have equally matched cars so the secret was to make the car as "wide" as possible without getting reckless. Edwards finished in 2nd place followed by Masciarelli, Michael Mennenga and Tom Posavec.
The Coca Cola 4 Cylinder Bomber division brought a field of 17 cars to the track for their feature race. Once again, A.J. Schreier dominated the race. Bill Brezner, Rick Kuhn, Joel Eckman and Shane Goodyear battled it out behind the leader for a few laps for the top five position but then Eckman started to go backwards and Goodyear had to leave the track for mechanical problems. Schreier took home the trophy followed by Kuhn, Mike Hilliary, Ric Fort and Rocky Bowden.
J. T. Schimborski took the win in the Ford of Ocala Pure Stock division feature. With the likes of Rick Hart, Chuck Stewart, and David Danielson ahead of him, Darren Dukes beside him and several other former feature winners behind him, the task getting to the front seemed pretty big. When the dust was settled thought, Schimborski took the win followed by Paul Fletcher, Stewart, Bobby Valeo and Michael Rosa.
Moose Alderman has been the runner up several times this season, but Saturday night he got the win in the Thrifty Nickel Hobby Stock division feature. Sharing the moment with him was his wife, Joan, who is also his #l fan and his crew chief. John Betts finished in the 2nd position followed by Mark Mitchell, Chauna Johnston and Tommy Roberts.
On Saturday, June 22, the Dwarf Cars will return along with the Diamond "H" Air and Heat Modifieds, the Steven A. Bagen Sportsmans, the Thrifty Nickel Hobby Stocks, the Ford of Ocala Pure Stocks and the Coca Cola 4 Cylinder Bombers. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost for this event is $10.00 for Adults, Children 36" - 55" are $2.00 and Children under 36" are free.
