Shane Butler Takes T.B.A.R.A. Win at Ocala Speedway | June 9, 2002 - Ocala, Fl - Ocala Speedway fans love sprint car racing and always look forward to the night when the T.B.A.R.A. Winged Outlaw Sprints are on the schedule. And, as usual, they were not disappointed Saturday night when the racing started. Shane Butler started the feature race in the 12th position and picked his way to the front of the field, one position each lap, to take the lead on Lap 13 and go on to take the win. Matt Mercer started on the pole and held off a challenge by David Slawiak and Sonny Hartley before finally losing the position to Butler. Mercer went on to finish in 2nd place followed by Keith Butler, Sonny Hartley, and Wayne Reutimann, Jr.
It looked like Troy Robinson was going to take home the trophy in the Diamond "H" Air and Heat Modified division feature again this week, but Alan McCafferty had other plans. Robinson led over half of the race before McCafferty had other plans. Robinson led over half of the race before McCafferty passed him and pulled away from the rest of the field leaving Robinson to contend with Kelly Lawrence. On the last lap it looked like Lawrence might get by but Robinson held him off. McCafferty took the win followed by Robinson, Lawrence, Aaron Clark and David Baxley.
The finish of the Thirfty Nickel Hobby Stock division feature ws a disappointing one for David Chastain. After leading the race for 13 laps, Mark Mitchell and Chauna Johnston got by him andhe had to settle for a 3rd place finish. Moose Alderman and John Betts rounded out the top five finishers.
Chuck Stewart took home the trophy in the WTRS Pure Stock division leading the race from flag to flag. The competition behind the leader was tough. Rick Hart had his hands full with Michael Fiddia and Fiddia was trying to hold off Paul Fletcher. Fiddia finally passed Hart on Lap 9 to take the 2nd position. Hart finished 3rd by Fletcher and Darren Dukes.
Ric Fort took home the win in the Coca Cola 4 Cylinder Bomber division. In a race that was plagued with cautions, Fort held his own. Bill Brezner finished in 2nd place followed by Marlon Durbin, Joey Durbin and Dennis Hardin.
