Tommy Styer Turns 15, Picks Up Another Feature Win | By Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Steve Dielmann fought off the race-long advances of Chad Rutherford to claim his third 25 lap street stock win of the season Saturday night at Hialaeh Speedway.
The pure stocks were combined with the street stocks due to short fields in both divisions but it was veteran Dielmann wire to wire for the victory. Rutherford was the runner-up over newcomer David McLeod, Frank Kelliher who was the best of the pure stocks and Greg Gorniak.
Mini stock point leader Tommy Styer celebrated his 15th birthday with his ninth feature win of the season in the 20 lap event. Styer took the lead on the second circuit and lead Arcy Anderson, Jerry Woodall, Harold Cross and Eddie Lowery to the checkers.
The evening's best race saw Gabe Hernandez and Victor Leo run door to door for most of the 25 lap cyclone feature with Hernandez ahead at the strip by inches until a final surge by Leo coming down for the checkered flag. Leo garnered the victory by a foot over Hernandez, Ron Regula, points leader Harvey Freeman and Dave Cabrera.
Brian Paradis scored a sweep of the visiting Modified Lites (Dwarf cars) with a dominating run over Mark Landis and Phil Krauthoff while the companion Pro Cup Challenge feature fell to Mark David over Tim Hart and Howard Brennan.
