Travis Rhoden Win's his first Late Model Feature | Travis Rhoden of Jacksonville won his first feature in a Late Model Saturday night at Putnam. Travis started from outside the second row and didn't waste much time getting to the front. After passing Floyd Martin for the lead he was only challanged once by Greg Ward and won by more than five car lengths. Ward finished second followed by Martin, J.O. Nobles and Tony Lewis.
The 50 lap modified feature was more like survival of the fittest. Jason Lowe looked like it was going to be his night early but could not hold off the always competitive Marion Sizemore for long. Once Sizemore was out front it was more of a race to see who could survive. I believe at the end there was only 5 cars on the lead lap. This was not from being lapped on the track but more so from having to pit for flat tires and broken parts. Robbie Barris was running a very good race as he and Lowe had swapped second place a few times. But then on a restart with 4 to go he broke a drive shaft. Lowe would pull to within a couple car lengths of Sizemore at the end and finish second. Chris Hammond past several cars late to finish third. John Galbraith was fourth and Bob McQuaig was fifth.
Street Stocks saw Tony Ross make up for being disqualified a few weeks ago as he dominated the whole race. Terry Lewis came in second followed by Blair Strickland, Billy Costello and Steve Wortman.
We saw a new face in victory lane in Hobby's as Jeff Terrell picked up his first win of 2002. His team mate Aaron McQuaig made a late race pass to finish second. Behind him was last weeks feature winner Mitch Wise, Dave Dowling Jr. and Dave Dowling Sr.
Ken Durham won his seventh of the season in Pure Stock. Scott Booth was sent to the rear for causing a caution in the mid point of the race but still wound up in second. Roy Strickland was third ahead of Mike Tripp and Ronnie Crutcher.
Mini Stocks is beginning to look like a one man show as Jay Farris won his third straight. John Hopke continues to improve finishing second ahead of points leader Mike Gibbs. Casey Murphy was fourth and Dylan Hawkins was fifth. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! news@karnac.orgor send a letter to the editor!
