Rick Sirmans Wins Race #2 for Florida Mini Stock Challenge at Orlando SpeedWorld

In spite of the warm nights and also a Friday night,
forty two Mini Stocks were on hand for the second race
of the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series. Once again,
drivers from all over the state came to try their
luck in this new and upcoming series. Not only were
there some great asphalt mini stockers but also quite
a few dirt mini stockers.

Only one driver was not able to qualify, the #07 of
Dick Laszlo who had to replace a rear seal, but he
was able to repair his mini truck for the consi race.
Robbie Yoakam #1x, the points leader at Citrus County
Speedway for the Mini Stock division, set fast time
for the forty one field. Because of the number of
drivers, a consi race was held with the top six
going into the main event.

Twelve drivers had to sit and watch as the 30 car field
took the green with the #2 of Corbin Gibbs on the pole.
Clint Foley #7x quickly took the lead but due to the
#lx of Yoakam, who spun and retired to the pits with
mechanical problems, the field had a complete restart.

Before the restart, the #99x of Tom Clark was on the
infield pit road with problems and out of the race.
Once again, Foley took the lead on the green with
Corbin Gibbs #2, Steve Griffin #3x, David Castello #1,
and Joey Catarelli #65 in the top five positions.

Caution 2 brought out the red flag when an engine
was blown and a number of cars piled into each
others in the oil. Totalled was the #7 Tim
"Missileman" McPhail, #65 Joey Catarelli. Also
damaged was the 3x Steve Griffin, #66 Donnie Lockard.
#l David Castello. #7x Clint Foley, and the #89.
Castello pitted and was able to return as well as
the #3x Griffin.

On the restart, minus the old leader #7x Foley, the
#2 of Corbin Gibbs holds the number one spot with
Sirmans #05, Watts #3, Robbie Storer #30 and #99k
Jason Kuykendall. The #77 Lee Davis passed the
#99k and puts Davis in the fifth place spot.

Just as Davis took the five place spot, caution 3
comes out for the #l David Castello and #27 Larry
Goolsby who touched and send Castello spinning.
The #27 goes to the rear along with the #1.

Castello overheats and retires from the race along
with the #3 of Watts. Sirmans is able to pass Gibbs
and holds first. Caution 4 then comes out for the
#77 Lee Davis who hits the front wall coming out of
turn four. Davis is okay.

Sirmans continued to hold the lead and took the checkers
for the second race of the Florida Mini Stock Challenge
followed by Gibbs, Thornton, Storer, and Pyburn.
