Travis McCoy Winner in Street Stock Division Hialeah Speedway | by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla - Former division champion Travis McCoy took the lead on lap 15 and hustled to his second victory of the season in the 25 lap street stock feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
Bob Hogan lead early until he had a heavy crash and nearly flipped on lap six courtesy of Bubba Martone. Martone then led until he spun on lap 14 and McCoy was in command to the checkers. Chad Rutherford, Gary Padula, Ron Wilson and Greg Gorniak rounded out the top five finishers.
Mini Stock point leader Tommy Styer once again dominated the 25 lap run for the small cars as he worked past rookie Eli Pollard on lap seven and never looked back. Eddie Lowery claimed runner-up money over Pollard, Jerry Woodall and Larry Johnson.
The 50 lap Cyclone headliner fell to Harvey Freeman although he crossed the stripe third. Both Victor Leo and Ron Regula could not get their cars through post-race inspection handing the win to Freeman. Zane Reid, Darrel Clark, Tony Crowder and Bob Regula completed the top five runners.
Frank Kelliher was the best of the pure stock field as he topped John Bentley and Roger Pfau in the 20 lapper. Chris Taylor and Billy Joyner checkered fourth and fifth respectively. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! news@karnac.orgor send a letter to the editor!
