The 1st Time Winners At Auburndale Speedway, With New Names InThe Winners Circle for 2 Divisions.

It was a night for the 1st time winners at Auburndale Speedway, with new names in the winners circle for 2 divisions.

The LLM took to the track with # 46 Tommy Caveney on the pole and # 1 Bart Weatherford outside front row, Weatherford took the lead early, but the caution flew when # 45 Sam Cressman tapped # 63 Wesley Bass and he spun in turn two, Cressman went to the rear for the restart, and Bass went into the pits for repairs but returned to take the green flag. Restart top 5 were Weatherford, Caveney, # 31 Wendell Guy, # 54 Steve Black, and # 65 Ollie Harbin, # 55 Richard Elkins Jr. went to the outside of Harbin for the 5th spot but Harbin taps Elkins and Elkins got sideways but kept going losing the 5th spot briefly and coming back under Harbin to take it back, the 2nd through 6th positions were nose to tail Steve Black and Wendell Guy get together on the front stretch and both spin, Black went to the rear on the restart, but nobody could catch # 1 Bart Weatherford and he went on to win, with # 46 Tommy Caveney 2nd his best LLM finish, and # 31 Wendell Guy 3rd. Limited Late Model Drive! rs dedicated this race to Roy Sanders after he passed away Saturday morning after a long battle with cancer, he was a long time contributor and friend to the Auburndale racing Community.

The "Driver of the week" is Dave Dunkin, he is married to Evelyn Dunkin and they have a Daughter named Andrea. He is 56 and lives in Lakeland, and he is the Asst. Service Manager at Winter Haven Dodge. He raced in the Modified division when he first started his racing career, and now drives the # 71 "Blue Goose" in the Limited Late Model Division, and has been racing for 38 years. His Sponsors are Jack English Insurance, Wilt Engines, Universal Painting, and Quality Flooring and Supply. His most memorable race is when he won the SARA race on his 54th Birthday, he has several Track Championships at Auburndale Speedway, Sunshine Speedway, Lakeland Speedway and the old Golden Gate Speedway. His goals for this 2002 season is to race, win and have fun. He would like to say a "Special Thanks" to Dwight & Sandy Scruggs, Earl Jones and his daughter Andrea Dunkin.

V-8 Street Stocks had a race to where it wasn't over till the "Fat lady sang". Jason Deaton # 99 took the top spot with # 65 Brian Harbin behind him and # 38 Jason Stifle 3rd, # 32 David Holland spun coming out of turn four and lost his tire and axle causing the caution on lap 4. Restart # 16 David Purvis got a jump on the start and went around # 51 Mark Lowe to move up up to the top 5, then the 2nd place car Brian Harbin fell off the pace and stalls in turn 3 bringing out another caution. Green again and # 40 Mike Pitts and Mark Lowe bounce off of each other but both continue, caution flys again when # 7 David Williams spins in turn 2, restart top 5 Jason Deaton, # 38 Jason Stifle, # 17 Alex Abbott, David Purvis and Mark Lowe, with 2 laps to go the leader Deaton lost power and pulled in giving the lead to Stifle and he went on to win his 1st feature, with Alex Abbott 2nd, and David Purvis finishing 3rd with his best finish in this division.

Mini-Stocks had a 14 car field with # 33 David Fair on the pole and # 38 Mike Margotta outside, Fair took the lead at first, Margotta challenging, then # 9 Robbie Storer splits them in the middle to battle for the lead, but pushes high in turn 4, but the next lap Storer had the lead, dropping Fair to 2nd, # 88 Burt Morse got under Fair and took 2nd # 01 Donnie Howell 3rd. Margotta and # 87 Bobby Judah battle and Judah spins Margotta in turn one causing the caution. Restart lap 5 Storer, Morse, Fair, Howell and Margotta, on the restart David Fair running 3rd spun on his own coming out of turn 4, another restart # 89 Scott Sharpe got around # 5 Chris Palmer and Howell, Palmer got to the inside of # 76 Ken Lawrence # 1 Marlin Lynn and # 67 Bo Davis followed, a couple laps later Davis got around Palmer for 5th and then to the outside of Howell for 4th, caution for David Fair lost a motor in turn 4, with 3 laps to go Robbie Storer took another win, Burt Morse 2nd and Scott ! Sharpe 3rd.

Taking the lead form the pole in the 4-Cyls was # 96 Larry Chumney II # 27 Wayne Guy 2nd, and # 69 Richard Edwards 3rd, Terry Jones # 3 running 4th, and # 1 David Jouppi 5th. Edwards and Wayne Guy get together and Guy spins, both to the rear for the restart, moving Jones and Jouppi up to 2nd and 3rd, # 38 Jerry Wingfield 4th, # 21 Rikki Shirah and Edwards were on the move to the front, and Edwards went to the inside of Shirah and Wayne Guy follows, Jouppi under Jones for 2nd but Jones comes back and takes the 2nd spot again, Wingfield went to the inside of Jouppi for 3rd, caution for Edwards and Guy getting together for the 2nd time, both "black flagged" and pulled in. Only a few laps to go Larry Chumney II took his 4th win of the season, with # 3 Terry Jones 2nd and # 38 Jerry Wingfield posting his best finish in 3rd..

New name in the winners circle for the Super Stock division, the 15 car field took the green with # 34 Jeff McCaw on the pole and taking the lead early on and # 13 Aaron Williamson 2nd, # 2 Paul Gibbs went to the outside of # 62 Travis Wilson for 3rd, # 12 David Williamson running 4th, until he got under Wilson for 3rd, but Wilson came back and took 3rd, Williamson and Wilson get together and Wilson spins bringing out the caution, after collecting up a couple other cars in the altercation, Gibbs returned after going to the pits for repairs to his car, Wilson and Williamson went to the rear for the restart. Lap 6 # 80 Dustin Breeden went to the inside of # 9 Johnny Gamble for 4th, David Williamson moving up from the rear passes # 97 Jammie Dunnahoe and # 3 Chuck Steele with Gibbs following, both pass Gamble to move up to 5th and 6th, Aaron Williamson, # 08 Jim Orisich, # 01 Chris Lewellen, Breeden, and David Williaomson the top 5, Dunnahoe and Steele hook bumpers and Steele g! oes spinning on the back stretch, restart with a few laps to go Aaron Williamson took his 1st win in this division, Jim Orisich 2nd, and Chris Lewellen 3rd. After post race inspections # 01 Chris Lewellen was Dqed in tech, moving Dustin Breeden to 3rd.
