Racing For Kids Club Highlights Auburndale Action

By Billie May

(KNS)The Racing for Kids Club was the featured races of the night being sponsored by Florida's Barn. With the Kids Club growing from last year they have three Divisions this season, Seniors, Juniors and Novice. The Seniors were the first to take the green, with just having 3 cars in this race they put on a great show.

Orrin Wright # 2 took the lead with # 36 Laura Weaver second and # 97 Craig Cuzzone running third. Lap 3 Craig Cuzzone went to the inside of Laura Weaver to take second but 2 laps later Weaver got underneath Cuzzone to retake second place but lost control in turns 1&2 and got sideways and Cuzzone took the second spot again. Wright lead lap for lap and won with Cuzzone second and Weaver third.

Juniors were next with 6 cars taking the green. Daniel McClain # 21 took the lead # 29 Matthew Cummins second, and Dustin Riley # 24 third. A battle for the fourth spot between # 58 Pamela Weaver and # 01 Casey Howell with # 18 Gregory Harris in the sixth spot. Single file racing McClain spreading out his lead, meanwhile Harris looked to the inside of Howell going into turn one for a good battle for fifth. Weaver went to the inside of Riley on the last lap for the third position. Daniel McClain took the win with Matthew Cummins second, and Pamela Weaver third.

Novice division had the biggest field of cars with 13 drivers going for the win. This division and Junior division have co-riders with them to help direct the kids while they race. Devan Fair # 00 took the lead early on, with # 5 Casey Smith second, and # 9 Levi Hobbs third. Brandy Stifle # 26 hit the wall in turn three, she was alright and was able to continue.

Rain delayed the racing action for awhile, but after the track was dried they restarted the way they came across the line on the last completed lap. Favian Hunter # 06 passed # 92 Jonathon Guy for the fourth spot, Levi Hobbs and Favian Hunter passed Casey Smith dropping him back a few spots, meanwhile Levi Hobbs took the lead from Devan Fair and Favian Hunter took advantage also passing Fair to take the second spot. It wasn't long and Favian Hunter took the lead over Levi Hobbs then caution came out, (Kids Club rule: no 3 wide passing) that is what # 9 Levi Hobbs did, and he was black flagged, handing the lead to # 0! 6 Favian Hunter but he also pulled in, handing the lead to Devan Fair. With just 2 laps to go nothing changed up front and # 00 Devan Fair took his first ever win with # 94 Michael Henderson second, and # 7 Brittney Pitts third.

4Cyl-Bombers were ready to get racing, Larry Chumney II # 96 got the top spot, David Jouppi # 1 second and # 27 Wayne Guy third. Terry Jones # 3 got underneath Wayne Guy for the third spot meanwhile there was a 3-way battle for the fifth spot between # 31 of Donnie Guy, # 21 Keith Shirah, and # 18x Mark Eagon. Shirah was on the outside of Donnie Guy for several laps by lap 8 he got around him to take the fifth spot, Eagon and Donnie Guy battle for the sixth spot, with Eagon making the pass, but Donnie Guy bumped Eagon and and he went high allowing Guy to pass him again. Terry Jones looked to the inside of David Jouppi but couldn't make the pass. Larry Chumney lead from the start taking the win with David Jouppi second and Terry Jones third.

Mini-Stocks rolled onto the track for their feature event. Scott Sharpe # 89 took the lead and # 97 Brian Dorer second, Robbie Storer # 9 was up to third and caution comes out for # 57 Jason Rendell smoking and slow on the track because his cam shaft broke. Complete restart, Sharpe took to the front and caution again for # 5 smoking and slow on the track. Another complete restart Sharpe leading with Dorer second and # 87 Bobby Judah third, until Robbie Storer went to the inside of Judah for the third spot # 90 Randy Storer and Judah were battling for the fourth position when Judah got tapped from Randy Storer and Judah spun, caution and they were both put to the rear of the field but, Randy Storer went to the pits. Restart Robbie Storer took the top spot from Sharpe and it was single file racing from then on. Robbie Storer took his 3rd straight win with Sharpe second and # 58 Wayne Weaver third.

V-8 Street Stocks were ready to rumble with Mike Wilson # 31 taking the top spot Rodney Peterson # 00 second, and third was # 99 Jason Deaton, Alex Abbott # 17 went to the inside of # 51 Randy Shearer. Brain Harbin # 65 and # 7 David Williams make a sandwich out of # 32 David Holland both passing him at the same time on the back stretch, one on the inside the other on the outside. David Purvis # 16 spun in turn four got going again but the caution came out. Restart Wilson still leading Peterson second and Deaton third, single file racing until the second place car of Rodney Peterson blew a motor and sent alot of cars sliding and spinning into turn one but no one had any major damage to take them out of the race. Restart Brian Harbin went to the inside of Shearer for fourth, then Harbin went to the outside of Abbott battling for third. Abbott gave a tap to Deaton and got him sideways, but Deaton repaid the favor dropping Abbott a couple spots, # 38 Jason Stifle took advantage! and moved to fourth. Brian Harbin looked to the outside of Deaton for the second spot and made the pass. Mike Wilson took the victory with Brain Harbin second and Jason Deaton third.

The Super Stocks had # 12 David Williamson on the pole and # 80 Dustin Breeden on the outside, but Williamson took the lead Breeden second and # 34 Jeff McCaw third. Chris Lewellen # 01 pulling into the infield collected # 2 Paul Gibbs up when he didn't realize Gibbs was under him coming out of turn four. Jeff McCaw went to the outside of Breeden for the second spot, side-by-side for many laps, caution when Gibbs lost control on the backstretch and went sliding through the mud in the infield. McCaw on the outside again trying for that second spot but settled in behind Breeden for awhile, caution # 97 Jamie Dunnahoe stalls on the track. Top 3 still the same Williamson, Breeden, and McCaw, Paul Gibbs passes # 13 Aaron Williamson to put himself in the top five after spinning and starting from the rear. David Williamson with a big lead, last lap he loses control and spins coming out of turn two handing the win to Dustin Breeden, Jeff McCaw second, and # 08 Jim Orisich third.

The fastest class of the night were the Limited Late Models, with # 71 Dave Dunkin on the pole. Dunkin took the top spot with # 65 Ollie Harbin following and # 21 Von Pope third. Billy Norris # 25 had a bad push going into the corners and ended up spinning out in turn two causing the caution. Lap 11 restart, single file racing but Harbin was closing in on Dunkin enough to give him a couple taps in the corners but Dunkin went on to win the feature with Harbin second and Von Pope third.
