Danny Maddox picked up right were he left off at the end of last season and ran to wire to wire victory in the 25-lap late model sportsman feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
Wheeling the Titus Pontiac, Maddox blasted from his outside front row starting spot for the top spot with Ricky Rogero soon on his bumper. This lead duo ran nearly the entire distance in this same fashion with Maddox collecting his first win of the season. Rogero, Tim Harrington, Bobby Shelton and Gary McGoron rounded out the top five runners.
Gary Padula proved to be the best of the street stock runners as he streaked to a wire-to-wire triumph in the 15-lap headliner. Mike Kohut gave chase throughout but settled for runner-up honors over T.C. McElyea, Fred Schenk and Bryan Cook.
The pure stocks were back as a regular divison for the first time since 1998 and it was Greg Gorniak the top man in the 25-lapper. Wesley Horne and Roger Bohannon engaged in a fierce battle for second spot with Bohannon getting it by a bumper at the stripe. Frank Kelliher and Roger Pfau completed the top five finishers.
Mini stock points leader Tommy Styer stomped the short field of four-cylinder racers with a win over Kenny Strong and Ray Llanes.
Pfau topped the 25-lap cyclone main ahead of Tony Crowder and Mike Powers. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! news@karnac.orgor send a letter to the editor!
