HIALEAH, Fla. - Charlie Coyle survived a spin and plenty of heat to come home with the victory in the 47 lap late model sportsman feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway as the famed Miami-area oval celebrated its 47th anniversary. Coyle drew the pole position and began to drive away from the field on the initial green flag. Sixth starting Joe Winchell moved to the runner-up spot by lap nine and closed on the leader five rounds later, but on lap 24 the two made contact with Coyle's mount spinning in turn one. Winchell was deemed the villan and sent to the rear as Coyle regained his spot at the point. Coyle ran unchallenged from that point on with Ricky Rogero crossing the stripe second. Winchell came back for thrid money over Bobby Shelton and Gary McGoron.
Street stock points leader Gary Padula added another win to his total as he grabbed the lead from Craig Seewald on lap three and never looked back enroute to the victory in the 25 lap main. Rick Lutz gave chase but had to settle for runner-up honors over Steve Godlewski, rookie Wink Roberts and Seewald.
Eddie Lowery led all 47 laps of the mini stock headliner for his first win in nearly two years. Point leader Peter Lloyd claimed second money ahead of Bill Calder, Jerry Woodall and Dave Shull. The rough and tumble 47 lap cyclone main fell to young Chad Orth as apparent winner Mark Bradley could not get his mount through post-race inspection. Harvey Freeman turned in his best drive of the season for second spot ahead of points leader Roger Bohannon, Bryan Cook and Ryan Simm.
Outlaw modified point leader Ted Hoverson showed why he is currently atop the touring series as he held off Timmie Hunley for the win in the 25 lap main event. Hoverson snagged the lead from Dave Cochran on lap eight the had to hold off interloper Hunley for his convincing win. Behind the lead duo was Cochran, Myk Lauter and Lance Hoverson.
The most exciting event of the evening fell to Legends car veteran Andy Logan. Richard Morlan led thru lap 29 before Logan and David Tart snuck to the bottom side in turn 1 and sped to the checkers in the 30 lap event. Rookie Jason Reisman claimed fourth with Ray Sasser rounding out the top five finishers.
Steve Dielmann proved the best of the figure 8 runners as he bested Bohannon, Ken Rickert, Tim Jones and Danny Chance
