Bresnahan takes Lake City Fla Pro Race

by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Rookie Mike Bresnahan scored one for the new guys Saturday night as he led the final three laps to capture the Florida Pro Series 125 late model event at Columbia Motorsports Park.

With only a handful of laps remaining it appeared that points leader Dick Anderson would register his fourth win this season but it was not to be. Challenger Mac Johnson made contact with Anderson's mount with Johnson's No. 6 entry flipping and sliding down the front chute on the roof. Johnson scrambled from his car unhurt while Anderson took his Jimmy Harris-owned car to the pits for repairs.

Fast qualifier and pole sitter Jonny Kay paced the first 39 circuits on the high banked half-mile oval before sixth starting James Powell wrestled the top spot away. By lap 50 Anderson had caught Powell but had to be content to shadow his every move as he waited for the right opportunity to run for the lead. On lap 112 Donnie Oden dropped some water and spun as did leader Powell who suffered a flat tire in the process and Anderson took the point. Behind Bresnahan was fellow rookie Brian Finney, Anderson, Scott Grossenbacher and Jeff Emery. The second five consisted of Powell, Hubert Simmons, Rick Carlton, Shane Sawyer and Kevin Dicks.

Local division action saw Greg Nordstrom the Florida modified
winner while Jeff Prescott topped the street stocks and Danny Coleman the pure stocks.
