Mike Toemmes Inherits Hialeah Late Model Sportsman Win | Christmas came early for at Hialeah Speedway Saturday night as he led the final lap to win the 25-lap late model sportsman headliner.
Larry Rogero and Joe Winchell tangled and crashed on the white flag lap while running first and second and the lead fell to Charlie Bible under the yellow. As the field prepared for a restart the transmission in Bible's car failed and Toemmes took the point and led the final circuit for his first win in many seasons of very limited activity. Bobby Shelton claimed runner-up honors over Bob Regula, Steve Weaver, Jr and new points champion Gary McGoron.
Street stock points leader Chalo DeCastro ran to his fourth win on the season in the 25 lap run over Gary Padula, Fred Schenk, Mike Orth and Ron Wilson.
In the mini stock twin 25 lap features Tim Jones copped the opener in his Toyota over a very pressing Buddy Sizemore, Kenny Strong, Jim Miner and Richard Thomas. In the nightcap it was fastest qualifier Sizemore who turned the tables on Jones for the win with Strong, Miner and Charlie Rosbury rounding out the top five runners.
Bruce Moerlins picked up his second cyclone win this season as initial victor Mike Blinko was denied at the tech line. Roger Pfau was second over Roger Bohannon, Mike Powers and Frank Kelliher in the 25 lapper.
Chris Piacentino topped the 31 car field to win the 100 lap enduro. Racing action wraps up this week (12-9) at the historic Miami-area speedplant.
