McClellan Dominates Florida Modified Open Wheels at Columbia

(Lake City, FL; 10/14/2000) Eddie Gainey waited until the final lap to make his move as he went on to win Saturday night's 25-lap Late Model Stock finale at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Richard Ferry was the early leader with Jay Middleton applying pressure until the two tangled on lap 18 and Don Hale took the point. Hale's car appeared to be a handful in the late laps, and off turn 4 coming for the checkered flag he bobbled, allowing Gainey and Ferry to drive underneath him to finish first and second, respectively. Hale claimed third ahead of Fain Skinner and Michael Haigh.

J.F. McClellan avenged his loss from the previous week with a dominant
performance in leading all 20 laps to win the Florida Modified Open-Wheel run. Gainey gave chase but settled for runner-up money ahead of Shannon Smith, Rick McManaway and Roger Graham.

Pole sitter Nick Reid wrestled the lead from Ronnie Cook on the second lap then sped to the win in the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Point leader Randall Jackson had another good night to checker second over Ray Wheeler, division newcomer Marty Wood and Brad Fiene.

John Ray McNeil set sail and looked good in the early going of the Pure Stock main, but a flat tire on lap nine spoiled has night as Danny Coleman picked up the challenge and sped to the win. Jerry Fortner turned in a steady run for second money ahead of rookie Nevin Gainey, Harry Stickle and William Jerkins.
