Rain Cuts Short Charlotte County Speedway Racing | (9/23/2000) Rusty Hillman (North Fort Myers) has been on a roll at Charlotte County Speedway for much of this racing season in the Limited Late Model division. He continued his streak during the fifth leg of the Circle One Limited Late Model 6-Pack Series by taking the fast qualifying time, but it was fellow Lehigh Acres drivers, Smokin’ Joe Sumasky and Randy “Hondo” Fox, who sit on the front row of the 100-lap race, which was cancelled due to Mother Nature and bad weather.
The Clear Channel Pure Stock division also qualified for their special 50-lap race with Outta’ My Way Kay Jackson (Port Charlotte) taking fast time, but the Ford Thunderbird of Kevin Utter (Fort Myers) is on the pole with Mark Ludvigsen (Fort Myers Beach) sitting alongside him when the rescheduled race is run next month.
The heat winners in the Marlow-Werner Sportsman division were Scott “Macho Man” Moran (Fort Myers) and Mark Chapman (Fort Myers).
Danny Yates (Cape Coral) and Brian Richardson (Cape Coral) were the heat winners in the Big Wheels Mini-Stock division.
Raindrops began to fall in the first heat of the Lee’s Auto Repair Road Warrior division, bringing out the red flag and an early end to the evening’s racing program.
Fastrucks return to CCS on September 30 along with a 50-lap Mini- Stock race. Also, on the schedule are the Limited Late Models, Dwarf, Sportsman, Mini-Cup, and Cowboy Cadillac divisions.
Race fans are in for much more racing action on October 7, as the resheduled Limited Late Model 6-Pack race and 50-lap Pure Stock race takes place along with the fourth leg of the Budweiser Open-Wheel Modified 6-Pack Series.
