WIRE-TO-WIRE WINS TOP HIALEAH RACE CARD | (Hialeah, FL; 9/16/2000) Although atop the Late Model Sportsman points for several months, Gary McGoron was winless this season. Saturday night he took care of that, as he led wire-to-wire for the victory in the 25-lap headliner at Hialeah Speedway. Joe Winchell, subbing for Danny Maddox in the Tutus Pontiac, put plenty of pressure on McGoron and at one point had him sideways, but eased off and they ran to the checkers in that order. Bobby Shelton, Todd Kuntze and David Myer completed the top five runners. Former Street Stock champion Travis McCoy led wire-to-wire for his second victory of the season in the 25-lap run. Mike Orth took second money over point leader Chalo DeCastro, Craig Seewald and the Dodge of Fred Schenk. The Mini-Stock main went caution free with Jim Miner capturing his first career victory. Point leader, Kenny Strong, and David Russell kept the pressure on Miner but had to settle for second and third, respectively. Scott Rogers and Bob Goode completed the top five. Frank Kelliher, coming back after shoulder surgery, bested the 21-car field to win the Cyclone feature event in wire-to-wire style. Don Morey gave chase but settled for runner-up money over David Drury, Mike Powers and Lynn Reid.
Super Mini-Cup pilot Mike Harrison made two consecutive wins at the speedway, taking the win over Tom North and Bret Jameson.
