Thrills and Spills at East Bay Raceway | As the track prep crew cleared the lakes on the racing surface, the moisture made the race track tacky and competitive. The familiar names of Alexander, Tanner, and Nosbisch proved that the "Old Guys" still are the ones to beat in the Late Model Division.
Roger Crouse was on the front row possibly wondering if he had what it took to take home the top prize, but it wasn't to be as Jack Nosbisch, Jr. took the point on lap 7 and was never challenged the remainder of the twenty-five laps. With his brother Ken in the runner-up spot followed by Roger Crouse in the black and green #32.
The sprinters had a full field with some thrills and spills as Brady Alvis got on his lid when he tangled with #56 Jeff Vandusen; Alvis was unhurt. With the 00 of Randy Martin, Jr. up front and threatening to make it a runaway, the yellow flew on lap 10 and by lap 12, there was a new leader, the 1A of Robbie Smith. Smith built a large lead over Sport Allen, but the yellows bunched the field up again with Allen knocking at the back bumper of Smith. Smith didn't give it up as he held off the charge and picked up the win.
The Limited Late Models had two features on the card. As this is one of the tightest classes, the tempers were raised with several bumps and bad feelings coming into play. Jeff Matthews and Danny Bowman battled for the lead for nine laps as Matthews finally picked up the win. Bowman showed he was somewhat upset with Matthews, but the cool hand of track officials intervened to cut the fuse. There were other things going on between Roger Crouse in the 15 and the 35 of Tim Gay and they managed to beat each other's cars up after the race. The top three were Jeff Matthews, Danny Bowman, and Paul Davis.
The second feature of the evening was run with a bit cooler tempers and Roger Crouse took the checkers, but was disqualified after the race, and Dale Pope got the win.
The Street Stocks had the usual wild time finding people on their tops as Timmy Bronson went "Wheels Up" on the back stretch but again with no injuries. With close racing the 98 out front found Raymond Rogers pounding on his back bumper and eventually taking the lead and continuing his winning ways. Rogers was followed by Terry Bronson and Cam Canova.
The Mini-Stocks found Devin Dixon in the winner,s circle as he and Scotty Williams had a battle from start to finish.
The winner of the fan races was Tony Trainer; second was J.R. Prater, Jr.
