Notes from 4th Annual Bill Flingos Memorial | (8/19/2000) Veteran Dick Anderson took the win in this 4th Annual run to honor a former driver, owner, and track official who passed away in March 1997 after a long battle with cancer. Anderson's win was his second victory in as many nights as he also won the 125-lap Sunbelt Series run at Orlando Speed World on Friday night in another car. Anderson's colorful and successful career began at Hialeah in the late 60's with an entry level '53 Ford.
******* Joe Winchell, driving the last car owned by Flingos, almost never made the show as the car was "all over the shop floor" at 10:30 Saturday morning. When the decision was made to race it was a wild thrash to get everythnig together. Starting from the outside of the front row, Winchell led the first 43 laps of the event until the first yellow flag regrouped the field; he lost the brakes and the race to the charge of winner Dick Anderson.
******* A less than anticipated field of 15 cars were on hand for the fourth running of the Flingos event. Bobby Shelton spun in practice and impacted the first turn wall to end his night and Jonny Kay and rookie David Flowers both were not able to start. Kay had overheating problems after an aborted first lap start caved in the car's cooling airbox and the carburetor on Flowers' No. 8 failed.
******* James Powell, a decided non-regular here, is a former winner wtih the Florida Pro Series and had the benefit of car owner Mark Cowheard's many years of fielding cars on the flat third-mile oval. It all combined for a fast time mark of 16.473.
****** Among the former drivers on hand spectating were Bobby Brack, Bobby Coyle, Gene Heagney, Dickie Brack, Marty Handshaw, Gerald Silvious, Rob Bean, Mike Howell, Tom Harrington, Skip Gibson, as well as Randy and Teddy Barnwell.
