The "King" Shines at Orlando SunBelt Race

The Florida SunBelt Super Series for the Super Late Models returned to Orlando Speedworld Friday night and it was veteran driver Dick Anderson making it two SunBelt victories in a row, adding to his recent win at Lakeland.

The race actually resembled more of a chinese fire drill as the 125-lapper featured one red flag and 12 caution flags. Mike Franklin, Jr.'s 13.565 lap bested 29 other cars in time trials, but he drew the seven pill inversion for the start putting seventh-quick Shane Sawyer on the pole. Sawyer spun coming down for the start forcing a second try for green. Sawyer also slipped on the second start as Rick Carlton took the top spot only to see fourth starter Anderson rocket past on the outside and into the lead. On lap four, Travis Kittleson and Jeff Sloan tangled with Sloan hitting the backstretch wall. Sloan came around and slapped the turn one wall to bring out the first caution. Anderson kept the top spot as Sawyer and Lee Collins got together out of turn two. Collin's car road up the wall and began to slide on the drivers' side into turn three where it rolled on it's roof. Collins emerged unscathed but both his and Sawyer's cars were out for the evening. The red flag came out for the wreck and when racing resumed it took to only lap 17 for the next caution for Barry Willoughby's spin. Willoughby spun again on lap 21 for caution three as Anderson continued at the point. John Lovelady got turned around on lap 32 for caution four with lap 39 the next caution as Randy Fox, Jeff Emery and Mac Johnson tangled in turn one sending Johnson to the pits on the hook.

Franklin moved to second but Anderson was pulling away when Travis Kittleson stalled in turn three for caution number six. The field managed 23 green flag laps before caution seven came out for Justin Drawdy's smoking car. On the restart, Bill Pratt hit the wall to put the field back under caution, then on the next restart both Dave Schwendeman and Rick Carlton did separate spins for caution nine. Anderson continued to hold the lead as Franklin began to get pressure from Michael Williams and Jimmy Cope. Robert Yoho brought out caution #10 with a spin and it was Williams using the restart to his advantage getting by Franklin and bringing Cope with him. Caution was tossed for the 11th time on lap 101 as Jonathan Brown went for a spin.

Williams went after Anderson on the restart but Anderson again began to pull away. The final yellow came out on lap 112 as Brown spun again setting up a final dash to the checker. Anderson was up to the task, holding off Williams for the win. Anderson was behind the wheel of the Jimmy Harris Racecars Chevy while Williams did a superb job in his first ride in the South 40 Motorsports/Interstate Batteries Special. Point leader Jimmy Cope came home third after starting in 11th in the Myakka Brokers/Executive Racing School Monte Carlo with Franklin's Checkmate Truck Brokers machine fourth and David Rogers driving his TM Ranch/Orlando Dodge Intrepid to fifth after starting tenth. Rounding out the top ten were James Powell III, Mike Fritts, Rick Carlton, Billy Mowery and B. J. McLeod.

In other action, Jeff Wright won out in a tough battle with Rich Clouser to take the Sportsman feature. The action was wild in this one as Mike Carr, Righard Hight and Jeff Miller rounded out the top five.
Mini-Stock honors went to Kenny Hankins, his fifth of the year. Hankins passed Marty Pierce late in the race to claim the victory with Pierce, Kelly Jarrett, Rose Dickerson and Pedro Angelino completing the top five.

Point leader Carl Peters took the Super Stock feature outrunning Mike Peppler, Bob Wines, Homer Gordon and Dennis Carroll.
Kevin Reese topped Russ Rinaldi to win the Strickly Stock race.
