FRITTS SLIDES IN FOR WIN IN MODIFIEDS AT NEW SMYRNA | (New Smyrna; 8/5/2000) David Rogers let B.J. McLeod beat him in the heat, so he blasted right by on lap #1 of the feature and held B.J. off for the Super Late Model feature win. The TM Ranch Dodge was 'King of New Smyrna" again. Mike Good's #27 Briar Construction Gang's hot rod was in fine form following up his win at Orlando SpeedWorld (OSW), and ran third. Jeff Emery had the #12E running strong and took fourth over Tom Root's #19 Orlando Dodge Intrepid.
Randy Dye's #43 Country 93.1/Speedway Dodge Avenger had to work hard to hold off hard-charging rookie challenger Chad Pierce for the Late Model feature win. The #43 currently holds the points lead, and is on a streak. The #57 Biscuits and Gravy/ASM Chevy has run second for the past 2 weeks, and is poised for a win. Phil Bessette #17 ran third with Bill Morris #3 and Bill Eggerton #5 rounding out the field.
Track record holder and defending OSW Sunbelt champ, Mike Fritts, made a daring and brave move on lap 14 to slide under the #14 of leader Aric Almirole's "Dirt Devil" and beat him to the line for the crowd-pleasing Modified win in the deadly black #112. Herman Korpe and Billy Walker (owners) were very pleased, and decided to put the car up for sale on the spot. Jim Flynn driving the #57 Business Archives Chevy is really getting better every week, and was right there for third. Sammy Graham drove Mark Vandevender's #7x Document Technologies machine to victory over the car owner, Mark who placed the #7 Phase 11 car fifth. It was great to see a big field of Mods for a weekly show!
BBM 25-lap Mini-Stock feature with $500 to win brought Bob Doxie flying in from Georgia, and he drove the Boot Barn #2 hard to win over the #75 of race sponsor Marty Pierce. Ted "Mr. Mini-Stock" Vulpius ran strong thirds both nights of this weekend. Geoff Williams #17 was fourth over the silver #94 of Ron Dubeau.
Bob Andrecheck's #90 KOA/ Marines Camaro put on another hard charge to blast to the front and get another Sportsman win as Friday Night winner Bobby Lee Good #27 fell out. Ian Huffman put the Gator Golf car in third, John Nusbaum's #70 "Bad Bee", was back in good running order and nailed down the fourth spot over Steve Redditt's good looking #1, blue and red Pontiac.
Again, the Super Stocks were a crowd favorite with a big field of cars. Past Champ Rich Clouser borrowed the #17 car and drove it to a clear victory over a much improved #45 of Mike Soukup. The lady's man, Homer Gordon brought his #22 up from "The Trail" to claim third. Chris Peludats, the "Wild Lithuanian", #28 battled the #57 for fourth, Merz's car was experiencing ignition failure, and settled for a disappointing fifth.
Strictly Stock: After the inspections, I don't know who won!
