Father And Son Both Score First Wins On the Same Race Card

(Orlando, FL; 8/4/2000) Action was wild and wooly Friday night at Orlando Speedworld as the Mini-Stocks ran their rescheduled 50-lap event and the Late Models ran the US Country 93.1 100-lapper.

The Mini-Stocks were first up on the grid with 32 cars taking the green. Polesitter, Randy Koon, had trouble on the start bottling up the field on the backstretch causing a major accident that sent Duane Parker's machine head-on into the pit divider.

The fans held their breath as rescuers arrived to assist Parker who was removed from the machine and later taken to the hospital with a broken leg. Parker's car was completely destroyed and he was lucky to have such a well-built car that prevented any more serious injuries.

On the restart, it was fast-qualifier, Martin Pierce, who took over the point but Kelly Jarrett was on the move as the point leader put his Toyota out front and began to pull away. However, Jarrett slipped badly in turn two just past the midway point of the race and lost three spots before he could recover.

Steve Griffin became the new leader with Ted Vulpius the man on the move, as he began to put the pressure on Griffin. Meanwhile, Pierce began to drift back in the field with an ill-handling car. What was a two-car race became four as Jarrett and Geoff Williams reeled in the leaders with Jarrett getting around Vulpius for second and putting the heat on Griffin.

Griffin was up to the task as he took the win over Jarrett and Vulpius. Wiiliams continued his run of good finishes coming home fourth, while Rex "Boneman" Hollinger drove a steady race to grab fifth.

The US 93.1 Country 100 for the Late Models saw a whopping 41 caution laps, all for minor incidents, four of which involved Roger Rebman who finally parked his machine in the infield.

Rusty Ebersole set fast time in the Garrett Fasteners Chevy but was never really a factor as Scott Bramlett passed early leader, David Logan, and went on to score a relatively easy win.

Driving Mike Murphy's Central Florida Septic Special, Bramlett took the checker ahead of usually strong Tim Harrington, Logan, Chris Lawrence and Jason Boyd.

Mike Good scored his first ever win in the Super Late Model division at Speedworld leading every lap in his Briar Corp/BBM Land Clearing and Grading Monte Carlo. Ever-improving Justin Drawdy had his best finish of the year coming home second in front of point leader Travis Kittleson, Rusty Ebersole, and Bill Pratt.

Not to be outdone, Good's son, Bobby Lee Good, led every lap of the Sportsman race to get his first win here. Good easily outdistanced Doug Samion, Jeff Wright, Richard Hight, and Brian Dula.

Hank "Mr. Modified" Sanders led all the way to capture his first Modified feature of the year. Jason Boyd put on a late charge but had to settle for second ahead of Frank Polly who finished third for the third week in a row. Wild Bill Gunn and Mike Fritts came back from an early race tangle to place fourth and fifth.

Carl Peters claimed his seventh Super Stock win of the year and added to his point lead. Peters outmaneuvered Duane Freed over the final laps to get the victory with Homer Gordon, Mike Peppler, and Bob Wines completing the top five.

Russ Rinaldi outran Kevin Reese to win the Strictly Stock feature.
