Adams Adds Albany to His USCS List | (Albany, GA; 7/21/2000) - USCS points leader Kenny Adams of Malabar, Florida won Friday night's 40-lap main event at Albany Motor Speedway. The 1/4-mile asphalt surface proved too tough for Adams' aggressive driving style on his first visit to the track on April 1. But this time Adams, who has won every USCS asphalt feature since then, was up to the task. Adams started the evening by setting fast time, then he went on to capture his heat and hold onto the lead all 40 laps in the main event, while being challenged lap after lap by the red #77 of Jim Raptis of Marietta, GA. The charging Raptis was at Adams left rear attempting to make the pass several times in lapped traffic and completed his best finish ever in a USCS event in the runner-up spot. Raptis was followed by Red Stauffer, Robert Smith, Mike Love, Randy Helton, Chris Hill, rookie Ben Fritz, Jerry Jones, and Steve Carpenter, rounding out the top ten.
Nick Manikis lost his brakes and crashed hard into the first turn retaining wall on a lap-20 restart and flipped. Manikis was uninjured, but his car was severely damaged. Stauffer won the Power Dash; Chris Hill won the other heat and finished 7th in the main event in his asphalt debut. Mike Love was the evening's Huggins Cams "Hard Charger' and Brian Thomas received the C&R Racing Radiators "I'm Cool" award. Fritz was the All Star Motorsports/Hart Racing top rookie of the race award.
