Childers Captures TBARA Sprint Feature at Columbia

(Lake City, FL; 7/23/2000) Veteran Jim Childers used his vast knowledge of the competition and his love for fast tracks to capture Saturday night's 25-lap TBARA Sprint car feature at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Top rookie Shane Miller set the pace on the half-mile oval for the first eight laps until Dude Teate forged his way to the lead over the 16-car field. As good as Teate looked, he was no match for the flying Childers as the 56-year old wheelman put the Riddle Racing mount on the point on lap 20 and never looked back in winning his third feature this season. Teate never gave up and took second money over Wayne Reutimann, Keith Butler, and Bo Hartley in the final rundown.

Richard Ferry blasted around John Crawford on lap nine and went on to win his second consecutive 20-lap Florida Modified feature. Kelly Lawrence gave chase and finished in the runner-up slot ahead of Roger Webb, Shannon Smith, and James Feagle.

It took Ray Wheeler 16 laps to get to the lead in the 20-lap Street Stock finale as he sped to the victory over point leader Charles Seroki. Nick Reid, who gave up the lead to Wheeler, checkered third ahead of Randall Jackson and Swain Norris.

The 15-lap Pure Stock main was a seesaw battle between Danny Coleman and William Jerkins with each leading on two different occasions but when the checkers flew it was the latter in command for the seventh time this season. Coleman was second followed by Trish Berry, Pam McRae, and Troy Davis.
