Crawford is 'Master' As He Claims Eleventh Win | (Lake City, FL; 7/16/2000) Veteran Charles Crawford once again proved to be the 'Master' of the Late Model stock field Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.
Al Beckleheimer, Jr. took an early lead in the 25-lap run, but by the second circuit it was Crawford and his familiar #41 on the point, and he never looked back enroute to his 11th win this season. Beckleheimer, second to Crawford in points, claimed runner-up money over Don Hale, Jr., Roy Crain, and Jay Middleton.
The visiting FastTrucks put on a good show as Tampa's James Glover, who started fifth in the 21 truck field, blasted to the lead on the opening lap and stayed there to the checkers. Veteran Paul Grynewicz crossed the stripe in second ahead of Todd Bontrager, Jeff Firestein, and Gary Foxworth in the 30-lap contest.
Richard Ferry had little difficulty in dispatching the entire Florida Modified field, as he took his open-wheeler to the point at the drop of the initial green flag and sped to the win in the 20-lapper, his third this year, over Eddie Gainey, point leader Crawford, J.F. McClellan, and John Mitchell.
Clayton Roberts and Nick Reid led the early laps of the 20-lap Street Stock main, but it was Ray Wheeler and his bright orange #74 who paced the final eight laps for the victory. Reid held on for second over Charles Seroki, Randall Jackson, and Ronnie Cook.
Pure Stock point leader, William Jerkins, put win number seven in the books as he topped Robert Bradow, Danny Coleman, Pam McRae, and Robert Young for top honors.
On tap for this Saturday, July 22, will be the always exciting winged sprint cars of the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association.
