Boatwright Wins Late Model Stock at Columbia

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Doyle Boatwright survived a tangle among the leaders and won Saturday night's 12 lap late model stock feature at Columbia MotorsportsPark. John Crawford and Eddie Gainey put on a tremendous battle but on the white flag lap they tangled in turn two and Boatwright, in the right place at the right time, sped by the combatants for the victory. Crawford recovered for the runner-up spot followed by Gainey.

Mike Johnson paced the 20 lap Florida modified main for the first five laps until Richard Ferry put his mount out front on lap five and drove to the win. Johnson kept digging for second money over Roger Webb, Crawford and Kelly Lawrence.
Veteran Jeff Prescott, using a fresh Louie Weeks engine in his Buick Regal, topped the exciting street stock 20 lap affair. Rookie Swain Norris paced the first two circuits until a multi-car tangle involved himself and others as Prescott went to the point. Ronnie Cook gave chase but settled for runner-up honors over Debbie Shepard, Norris and Trick Thomas.

Marty Wood, wheeling William Jerkins' car, came from the rear of the pure stock field for the win in the 15 lap event. Ever improving Pam McRae finished behind Wood in the final rundown with Butch Gilbreath, Robert Youngand Daniel Havard next to the stripe.
