Harrington comes from rear to claim Orlando Late Model win | The Late Models took center stage Friday night at Orlando Speedworld but the spotlight clearly shown on Tim Harrington.
Harrington set fast time in qualifications only to be disqualified for coming up too light in Tech because his crew forgot to fill the car with fuel. Thus Harrington was relegated to the rear of the starting grid as Michael Williams and new fast-timer Sammy Graham made up row one.
Williams took off at the drop of the green as Graham slid back to fourth. The first 25 laps were all green until Brent Chilson spun after a tangle with Jason Boyd who barely made the starting grid after suffering from heat stroke in the pits earlier in the evening.
Harrington had already moved up to fourth and had just taken third when Chris Lawrence and Bruce Lawrence II tangled on lap 41 to bring out caution number two. On lap 51, Harrington and Boyd came together in turn four while battling for second. Boyd got out of shape again in turn two collecting Sammy Graham to bring out the race's third yellow flag.
Williams continued to set the pace but Harrington made a move to the outside on lap 62 to grab the top spot. Harrington stayed out front the rest of the way staying in front of a rash of late caution flags including a second controversal tangle between Boyd and Graham that put both out of action. A last tangle between Bruce Lawrence II and Chad Allman severely damaged both cars althought both managed to finish.
Harrington took the win in his T &T Motorsports/Start to Finish Graphics Camaro with Williams second in the Sears Racing/Ace Hardware of Sanford/Space Coast Steel Monte Carlo. Richard Baer drove a steady race to nab third ahead of Brent Chilson, Kenny Crites, Chris Lawrence, Chad Allman, and Bruce Lawrence II as only eight cars finished.
After Chuck Burkhalter had problems and spun while leading, Frank Polly took over the point in the Modified feature and sped to his first win of the year. New comer Aric Almirola scored an impressive second over John Wills, Phillip Kessler and Alan Bruns.
Eugene Davidson drove his Car Doctor/Kenny Ulm Dodge Daytona to his second Mini-Stock feature win. Lee Davis came from 12th on the grid to finish second over Kelly Jarrett, Kenny Hankins and Tim Clark.
Sportsman honors went to Tommy Johnson as he held off a late charge by Sam Bowman. Jeff Wright checkered third in front of Russ Shaw and Richard Hight.
Carl Peters took his second Super Stock win of the year in relatively easy fashion leading all 15 laps. Mike Peppler, Homer Gordon, Bill Loomis and Bob Wines rounded out the top five.
