BRAMLETT TAKES CHARGE IN PRO TRUCKS at FSP | April 22, St. Augustine, FL Scott Bramlett converted his outside pole position into an impressive win Saturday night in the Southern Pro Truck feature at Florida Speed Park. From the outset, Bramlett set the pace in the late model truck event, passing fast qualifier Hubert Simmons midway through the first lap and never looking back for the remainder of the 75 laps.
“I can’t believe it three wins in the first four races,” said Bramlett, who has competed in the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series in addition to his two year stint with the Pro Trucks. “We’ve been doing our homework.”
Robert Deal scored perfect in the Rick’s Muffler Modifieds, picking up a maximum 10-point performance through qualifying, charging and eventually winning the 30 lap feature over defending champion George Thrift. Deal wasted no time in his effort, moving from his seventh place start into the lead by the third lap. Thrift challenged Deal right to the end, trading paint with Deal’s rear bumper on several occasions, but could not quite muster enough to get around the determined race leader.
“Every now and then you hit it right on the head,” said Deal. “Tonight was our night. The car was real good.”
Russ Miscally placed third, while Wesley Moore and David Linquist rounded out the top five.
Jason Garver ducked, parried, dodged and weaved throughout the final ten laps of the Sportsman feature, but it was not enough to withstand the Todd Ponce gauntlet as the #007 repeated his perfect 10 effort from a week ago, capturing his third consecutive victory in the division. Ponce, who again traded his pole position for a deeper starting spot, found himself in second place midway through the event before a spin brought upon by an aggressive Kenny Hall sent Ponce back to sixth place. Ponce quickly regained his form and moved through the field to challenge the frontrunning Garver. Following a valiant effort by Garver defending the top spot, which brought the enthusiastic crowd to their feet, Ponce found an opening coming out of turn 2 on lap 27 and stole the lead, claiming his third victory in as many tries.
In Mini Stock racing, Troy Kruse fended off Jay Farris, who started in last place in the feautre. Mike Ponce, Vern Rozier and Peedie Allison rounded out the top five.
Donnie Oden claimed his second victory of the season in Late Models over Jeremy Fitch, Harold Rankin, Jr., Scott Stevens and Jody Turner.
