Logan takes SARA Slug Fest at Orlando

Orlando Speedworld reopened last night after being off the
weekend before due to rain. It was Sea Ray Boats Employee
Night and features only for our regular divisions because the
Coca Cola SARA Late Model Sportsman had a l00 lap race on
schedule for the fans.

As the setting golden sun reflected off the track and made the
cars look like they were riding on a field of gold, hot laps were
taken and cars qualified. David Logan got fast time for the l00
lap race with Joe Boyd winning the pole after pills were drawn.
As fans stood for the playing of the National Anthem, the sun
set right behind the track.

The first feature division of the night were the Open Wheel
Modifieds with several SARA Modifieds in the field tonight.
Perry Brown, last year's Rookie of the Year and SARA
Champion, was in the field but it was Jason Boyd coming from
behind to take the win for this race. Jason made the 2x fly just
like Jimmy did.

In the Super Late Model division, it was Barry Willoughby in his
#74 Penzoil car on the pole and once again, being taken out about
midway thru the race. But this time, it was the opposite side of the
car for a change but still the rear-end. Barry, never fear, your day
is coming. You have to give a little to win alot. But it was Travis
Kittleson in the #88 Bob Steele Chevrolet car leading the way to
Victory Lane. In third place was Richard Clouser driving for his
uncle Dale Clouser the #64 Super Late. A very nice job Richard.
You even made it pass the #43 of Billy Pratt and Billy is not the
easiest to pass. If Billy's car is running right, no one is going to
pass Billy. Great race guys.

In the Mini-Stock division, it was Tim Clarke in the #25 on the
pole but the #97 of Kelly Jarrett winning yet another time. That
#97 is a hard car to beat just ask any of those four other drivers
behind him - Tim Clarke, Jamie Dixon, Carl Green, and Burt Morse.

In the Sportsman division, it was Doug Samion winning one more
time in his #04 machine. But Russ Shaw and that bright number 11
did his best to try and take the lead. He had Jeff Wright helping him in that department.

Duane Freed did a good job taking the lead in the Super Stocks
fighting off a hard charging Mike Peppler, Homer Gordon, Carl
Peters and Bradley Johnson. And now, it was time for the SARAs
to come out.

As the 28 cars took to the racing surface of Orlando SpeedWorld
taking a few parade laps and coming to a stop on the frontstretch
for driver introduction, you could feel the excitement starting to
grow. Joe Boyd was on the pole A few of the cars were regular
racers from Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway but
the majority were not. Scott Bramlett was driving the #26 of Mike
Murphy, Larry Osteen was in the field, Bruce Lawrence, Jr. also
with David Logan, Brent Chilson, and Michael Williams in Bobby
Sears car. Two of the SARA favorites - Wayne Morris and Mike McCrary, Jr were in the field also.

The race was full of cautions and almost unfriendly wire. Wayne
Morris and Mike McCrary had to take each other out and in the
end of the race, when it was all over, Wayne hit Mike and took him
out coming out of turn 4. This surely was not the best thing to do
for any driver, no one needs grudges on a racetrack.

By the end of the race, most of the cars had damage. David Logan
in the #lx had made it thru to collect the win but the rest of the field,
was a shooting match. I do believe that the full moon and racing
somehow gets to each other. It was not just the SARA race but quite
a few of the divisions that had cars damaged, even one to roll over.
My golden track from the setting sun was now a wreck feast full of
parts.
