Scott Howard Gets First Mini-Stock Feature Win at EastBay | With a full car count and a bumpy track the action was still close and exciting at the one third mile dirt track in Gibsonton. Donnie Tanner bagged his first feature win of the year in the Late Models. With a full field of twenty-four cars lap traffic and even just a little luck came into play for Tanner. With Tanner running in the top five and Bobby Alexander leading the way and appearing to have the field covered with Bill Howard in tow, with a puff of smoke it was over for Alexander.
On the restart Donnie was on Howard hot and heavy and the Veteran went on by and never looked back. It wasn't a walk in the park as on lap twenty-two the caution flew with Howard, Nosbisch and Schmauss breathing down the backside of Tanner on the closing laps but not enough time to get by.
In the Sprints it was a who's who on track but it was the young guns who were the cream of the crop tonight. Greg Leonard is a very impressive young man who drives well beyond his years. As someone who has watched many drivers in this very tuff class this young man is in the top five of any I have witnessed for his age. I would love to see the this guy on the highbanks of Eldora!
As you can tell Greg ran away with the twenty-five lap feature. Another young man with the name of Greg second, Greg Johnson a fourteen year old! The youth movement is in this class with the top two not even old enough to vote. Brady Alvis finishing in third place. There was one major mishap on the twenty-fourth lap as Johnny Gilbertson and Gene Lasker got together while passing lapped traffic, Gene got the worst of the deal as he flipped and ended up against the fence. With the bad luck Lasker has had this season I'm sure it will turn around soon, hang in the Gene.
Again the Mighty Mini Stocks had a full house and another first time winner this season of Scott Howard. This very nice looking mini-stock worked his way up to the lead by clean and steady driving along with a great job of passing cars high and low and working his way through lapped traffic. Howard was on top of his skills on a tuff track for the "little guys". Devon Dixion wasn't going to let it be a push over as he gave Bill Howard a mirror full of his blue and white number two with Art Gulvin following in third position.
The Street Stocks had there rock'em knock'em ways as Tommy Mena racked up another win. Mena worked his way through the middle of the field and passed Cam Canova for the lead spot and never looked back. The Street Stock were over the twenty-four minute limit allowed to run the feature requiring a "B" main to find a starting spot in the big show. A total of thirty-six cars took to the track in the Street Stock Division.
On a Saturday, the 22nd of April there will be an auctions and Bar-B-Q dinner to benefit the family of Donnie Mitchell.
