Lady Luck Smiles on Danny Coleman at Columbia Motorsports Park

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Former Florida modified track champion J.F. McClellan paced the early laps of the feature Saturday night but when the checkers fell in the 20-lap run it was John Crawford in victory lane at Columbia Motorsports Park.

McClellan and Monty Morgan tangled and spun to give the lead to Crawford, who never looked back enroute to the win. Shannon Smith claimed runner-up money while the spinners, McClelland and Morgan came from the back of the field to claim third and fourth spots respectively. Mike Johnson, in a brand new mount, rounded out the top five runners.

Jeff Prescott, who has been plagued with breakdowns and other assorted foul luck of late, put it all together to lead every one of the 20 laps enroute to the street stock win. Charles Seroki, a winner already this season, closed on Prescott in the late laps to claim second money over Ronnie Cook, Randall Jackson and Don Davis.

Pure stock winner Danny Coleman saw Lady Luck both frown and smile at him in the 15 lap feature event. Coleman led from the outset to lap 11 when his mount suddenly stalled, embarassingly out of gas. L.H. Davis took the lead and ran to what appeared to be a victory, but his car could not pass post-race tech and he was finished for the night.

The same fate befell runner-up Roy Crain as Coleman, who got a splash of gas to continue, ended up legal and the winner. Rick Day, Greg Cook, Pam McRae and Robert Bradow completed the top five runners in the final rundown. Only two late model stocks made an appearance and ran a 10 lap match race with Crawford topping David Clegg in the most exciting feature of the entire evening.

Action continues every Saturday night at the half-mile oval off Otis Howell Road in Ellisville.
