Fred Williams Mini-Stock Winner in Rain Shortened Hialeah Racing Action

HIALEAH, Fla. - On a night more suited to racing boats than cars, patience paid off for Fred Williams as he got a good jump on a restart with three laps remaining and went on to win the 20-laps mini stock feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Williams stalked leader Robert Goldsbury lap after lap but on a late race restart Goldbury's Ford pick up stumbled on a restart and Williams took the lead and victory, his first this season. Trailing Williams' Chevrolet Monza was Eric Rogers, Bob Goode, Goldsbury and Kenny Strong.

Defending cyclone champion Mark Schoedinger cruised to an easy win in that division as he used his familiar route on the outside lane and was never challenged after the halfway mark. Dominic Fulco, point leader Roger Bohannon, Gabe Hernandez and Mike Powers rounded out the top five in the 25-lap run.

The mini cup field was easily handled by Tom North as he got out front early and drove away to win the 15-lap event. Carlos Gonzalez and Doug Capps trailed at the checkers.

The features for late model sportsman and street stock divisions were lost to a second late rain storm and will be made up at a later date. The fate of the speedway's future will be known prior to next Saturday's scheduled races.
