David Russell Storms to Hialeah Mini-Stock Win

HIALEAH, Fla. - In what may have been the final night of racing at Hialeah Speedway, veteran Steve Dielmann led wire to wire to win the 25-lap late model sportsman feature event Saturday night.

While the future of the famed Miami-area oval is in doubt, there was no doubt that Dielmann, who lost the lead late in the feature the previous week, wanted this win badly and once in front he did every-thing possible to keep Bob Regula at bay for his first victory of the season. Points leader Regula checkered second over Greg Kaouk, Travis McCoy and Danny Maddox.

Bob Hogan inherited the win in the 25-lap run for the street stocks as apparent winner David Myer was found to have improper tires on his car. Gary Padula finished on Hogan's bumper for second money while Ken Ammerman, Chalo
DeCastro and Curt Haywood were next across the stripe.

For the second consecutive week David Russell came from deep in the field to win the 25-lap mini stock finale. Pole sitter Bob Goode led the event until lap five when Russell took command following yellow flag for a spin by Kenny Strong. Goode kept digging and took the runner-up spot, his best finish this season, over Tony Giambatista, Fred Williams and points leader Ken Chaiser.

The cyclone feature saw 29 cars take the initial green flag with Tony Crowder out front. No one had anything for the fleet Crowder the rest of the distance as he claimed his first win this season over the resurgent Mike Powers, Mark Schoedinger, point leader Roger Bohannon and pole man Ken
Rickert.

Larry Brown proved to be the best of the visiting Outlaw Modifieds as he outdistanced S.C. Klinger to win the 20-lap run for the topless mounts. Robbie Bean, Steve Quick and Donna Flowers rounded out the top five finishers.

Defending series champion Alain Paradis topped the Dwarf cars with a good late race surge past leader Andre Gagnon. Michel Fortin checkered second over Brian Paradis, son of the winner, Gagnon and George Landis in the 25-lap feature.
